Not good to hear, Mis. Hope you're okay. Same for you, Skinner.

Exams finally finished. All done. Now I enjoy two full months off until I even think about studying again, and just a few weeks until I jump on a plane to move to US for a year.

Thanks mate, I really appreciate that thought.

That's an odd way to pay for electricity. So how is counted? How much do you buy.etc

Prepaid, like a phone. My electricity came on a bill like civilized people do it but my gas used to come on a card that I had to get refilled at a government office. I usually paid someone to do it for me because I couldn't be f**ked fighting my way through a scum of Chinamen to get to the counter.

Very common in the developing world as there are not particularly offensive systems to chase up people who skip out on bills. Even a relatively 'developed' city like Cape Town has prepaid electricity.

As t-ba says. It's f**king archaic, and I'm the only foreigner I know (outside of my co-workers) who has to deal with it.

I burn through roughly 180 units a week in the summer between air conditioning, regular appliances, and my PC(s). That comes to 100rmb ($18) a week, although that's not an exact figure.

In the winter, it roughly doubles due to the fact they get to -10 here but don't bother to insulate the concrete blocks they call apartment buildings.

My 'have a beer with mates' night turned into staggering in at 5am with McDonalds and the promise of getting nothing done tomorrow.

I did swing dance the f**k out of Kenya, who was moister than a spring morning until I told her I wasn't interested. Hit on Belgium #1 and random skanks, but in the end my heart belongs to New York ABC. My goal this Sunday is to go there.
