I wonder why Smith loves Wicks so much? I mean what has he done? Scored one 40 meter try in the dying seconds that had no baring on our season. White is a harder worker and is more effective same as Tafua maybe we should start baggin them and he will keep picking them.

Wicks was smiths secret santa during the off season and gave him a photo of himself doing a blue steal impression and the photo has been on brian smiths wall ever since. He's the coaches pet, simple as that....

At least now we know that Brett Keeble reads the forum - and quite religiously given the Josh Perry comments!

I do agree with him to an extent. Danny does seem to be a "work in progress" and has been given every opportunity to develop. However there needs to be a line in the sand drawn as to what Danny needs to do and how long we give him before we decide it is time to focus attention elsewhere. He certainly appears to have the talent and ability - it just appears pretty dormant at the moment...

Wicksy has certainly been a case of I told you so really hasn't he. We were warned and never listened. The guy is a joke. How can u expect any player to take Brian Smith seriously when this big goose gets picked week in week out for doing nothing. It is quite unbelieveable really. Smith is showing how arrogant he is with his excuses. This is the man who told us Luke Walsh was a better halfback than Mullo. That should have read 'better speedhump' instead. Aku is about one game away from walking I reckon. Honestly he would've got dropped even if he had scored a hattrick on sunday. All so Wes can be babysat back into grade. Our two fastest players dropped against aside who are arguably the quickest in the game. JT will put kicks behind our wingers all day long.

Wicks could be anything. The guy is a freak of nature.
I'm starting to doubt he will ever reach his potential, but if Smith gets him up to near that level he will be the star of our side.

This is precisely the point I made to the Newcastle Herald in relation to Brett Keeble's comments today. To criticise Wicks is not to say that he is a dud. All I'm suggesting is that he isn't playing to his potential and perhaps the only way to encourage him to lift his intensity is to give him a spell in the lower grades.

It's a simple case of carrots and sticks, though perhaps Danny would eat the whole donkey rather than just the carrot. It appears he's got a carrot but there's no stick. The metaphor I like better is slap and tickle. There's a whole lot of tickling going on, telling him he's a superstar in the making, and not a lot of slapping. Like anything in life, there are incentives and disincentives. Josh Perry had too many incentives and not enough disincentives -- now look at him, in a strong forward pack having to earn his spot. Danny Buderus said he had a disincentives when he first started -- Johns yelling at him for crap passes. That'd be enough incentive for me.

I like Danny Wicks. I think he's the sort of bloke that makes a team gel off the paddock. But what we need from Danny at the moment is for him to come good on his claims a few months ago that he wanted to lift his intensity. I'm not sure that giving him something he hasn't earned is really the sort of message you want to send. Nor is sidelining White for doing everything that was asked of him.

Definately needs to mature and understand how fortunate he is to be as talented as he is... I mean if I had that sort of talent I would work day in day out and strive to be the best player I could be and not waste my God given talent...

You are kidding doctor. The vast majority of the squad have no respect for Wickys. He's lazy and an ar*e licker.

Noone doubts Wicksy's potential. The same things were said about Chris Walker though. Tons of talent and zero application. That said Walks has turned his life around. Hope Danny can do the same. Wicks lazes about cos he is allowed to. Simple as that.
