I care about my grades but I'm a lazy prick and the two usually leave me fairly frustrated.

I had close to a D average before this semester however I have a sneaking suspicion it will be going down  I'm not thrilled about it at all but as long as I pass the courses (should do...) I'll be content.

Everyone should be finished exams by now and results released shortly. What are your wanted grades and what do you expect you will get?

I want 3x D but I suspect it will be a D and two C's.

Before the exams... 1 HD, 3 Ds, 1 C.

Usually pretty good at picking my grades unfortunately, I'll go... 2 Ds, 1 C, 2 P.

Unfortunately I think the two Ds are going to be like 82 - 84 :fist:

I get mostly distinctions and credits but I'm not going to waste my time trying to get a HD, nobody cares about that sh*t when you're a prospect for a job (if it's for a post grad then that's different).
In fact it can go against you because of the stereotype that gets majority HD (they interview terribly!)

Case in point chick in my class that is hugely competitive and boastful and gets perfect marks doesn't have a job in the field (and the rest of us already do).

At my last job, every time my manager would interview a potential employee she would come back and either bitch to us about how bad it was.

Some people are ridiculous, one girl actually came in and told her life story when my boss asked her why she would be suited to the job, like literally started her spiel with "I was born in a town to the North of Saigon".

One of the best thing about the job was my manager telling us these stories.

I have heard of numerous law firms taking GPA into consideration when hiring graduates. It's more than likely common practice in most.

Already working in the industry it shouldn't be so much of an issue for me but it's still worth getting the best I can.

I'm not saying that they aren't important but it's better to be a good all round prospect not just academically.
And from what I've seen (both in my family and with study) people that smash HDs out can sometimes neglect other areas.

But my field is vastly different to law, geez f**k studying that sh*t! The amount of trees killed to print the stuff you guys have to study would make Al Gore cry!

Purely out of curiosity, why do you say this? I approached both my under and post-grad studies the same. I've never heard anyone say this before.

From mates that are completing or completed post grad studies.
One's a psych and the other is completing a genetics pHD.

It probably depends on the competitiveness of the degree as well I suppose.

No:lol: but now I'm reading about that.
I daresay if I studied that it would lead a bit of an insight into some people on here.

Ah I see. Yes for PhD especially now I understand why you said it. I was thinking along the lines of post-grad coursework, but yes PhDs you'd want to knuckle down to secure an academic post or something similar. Cheers.

Big companies running grad programs will def take into account GPA, as well as the rep of your uni.

Most career orientated technical positions will take GPA into account.

What could you possibly be studying that you couldn't share on an internet board??

What concerns you about sharing that info?
