*Jarryd Hayne had a top game at 5/8. He still has to develop a passing game, but with time that will come. At times i feel he could have passed but ran, but once again that quality will come with more time at the position. The try he scored off a roosters dropped ball, he kicked ahead twice before iving on the ball to score. Something you can't coach in a player.

thats my biggest concern with hayne at 5/8 - he really isn't a player who looks to set up a man outside him, its generally an after thought ..... BUT he is clearly an immensely talented player and if he's gonna score a bucketload of tries at 5/8, then I'm cool with that :D

We were very poor in the first 20 minutes. A stack of dropped ball and no real continuity. Mannah and Fui coming off the bench and taking back to back hit ups is what seemed to turn it around. Joe was very good as well, and they were all blowing the Roosters line back, giving the backs some room to do their stuff. Hayne of course was the standout there, and had two very good kicks to force drop outs as well.

Can't say KK impressed me that much, but I wasn't really focusing on him. Tood had a couple of shockers... the intercept to the Roosters giving up a try, and then he made a great break but coughed up the ball. Jess actually fell off her seat she was that disappointed

Best thing to take out of the game for me was a deep kick in the 70th minute that was fielded by the Roosters winger... who was met by a solid line of at least 8 or 9 Eels defenders on his 10m line, and then driven back. Great stuff. The fitness improvement over the last few seasons is definitely showing. Good marks to DA so far.

No real injuries that we could see. Josh had to come off very early and seemed to have a problem with his arm, but went back on very soon after so it wasn't that serious. Inu went down on one knee in the first half after a strong tackle, but carried on ok.

So again for those who went did the two referee system speed up the ruck and did it benefot Parramatta in any way?

I'm not sure... the second ref seems to hang well back behind the play, and whether or not they are tipping the main ref (at the 10m) or not is hard to tell. On one play late in the game Fui got taken out by OMeley chasing a kick through, and the main ref clearly missed it. It took a long time for the second ref to give him the call, and the Roosters actually regathered and played on for some time.

They don't get in the way, but whether or not they are cleaning things up is anyone's guess. At least the refs don't have to run as much so they aren't as likely to fatigue and stuff things up due to that. Only time will tell.

I went to last weeks game and Mannah was best on ground then as well IMO. Could be a big player for us this year. Cordoba is hopeless.

Seems as though Eric Grothe hasn't learnt anything from last year. If, and thats a big IF he starts the season in first grade, it is unlikely he will be there long

Hopeless might be a tad harsh, bit Tim's way ahead of him at this stage anyway

I only noticed one real stuff up from him... the dropped bomb that gifted the Roosters a try. Apart from that he seemed better in his decision making with Benny next to him. Hit ups were pretty strong too. Did I miss something he did?

I dont know why people have to bag out Eric all the time,he made one mistake tonight(ok led to a try for opposition) and there are calls for his head it seems.I dont think I was watching the same game, if Eric played that bad I didnt see it . It was a win but there is still a long way to go.

Just back from the game

Immediate thoughts:
Lacked anything up front with Cayless and Cordoba starting, game turned when Tim mannah came on and then when Fui replaced Cordoba who was basically dreadful.
Cayless played at the same level as O'Meley which to be honest meant he tried hard.

This is how I saw the game:-

Burt- ok game, scored a good try and made no real mistakes
Grothe- did drop the ball from a high kick , whih led to a try but in possession was good.
Smith - Needs more game time, pretty solid
Tautai - Nothing flash, solid
Inu - Looked good when came to centre and payed outisde Hayne, scored a good try
Hayne - shared best player on field honours with Kris Keating, scored a try reminiscent of Kenny
K Keating - best on field, shame in a sense that he has to give way to Finch
Oake - very willing, did drop the ball a few times
Hauraki - Solid not prominent
Hindmarsh - typical, will never let you down
Cayless - disappointing , continues to try hard, lacks something at the moment
M Keating - would be happy with his game, does go too often when close to the line
Cordoba - very, very disappointing, actually dreadful

Mannah - shining light, started to turn the tide when he came on
Fui Fui - See Mannah
Galuvao - best game for the Eels, suggest he likes the coach
Wright - made Josh look second rate, very promosing display
Robson - not on for long
Lowrie - tried hard , but lacks first grade technique, almost turned the game the wrong way when he hit the only Roosters player outisde him on the chest, who ran 50 metres to put Rortes back in game. Then make 30 metre break and drops the ball, oh dear
Reddy - replaced Smith and nothing special in limited time

Neither side will threaten top 4 sides on this display, we have more to work with as the young players stood up
Good to hear Joe had a big game a couple more and I think he can be quite usefull to us considering we dont have and abundance of forwards.
