Just back from the game

Immediate thoughts:
Lacked anything up front with Cayless and Cordoba starting, game turned when Tim mannah came on and then when Fui replaced Cordoba who was basically dreadful.
Cayless played at the same level as O'Meley which to be honest meant he tried hard.

This is how I saw the game:-

Burt- ok game, scored a good try and made no real mistakes
Grothe- did drop the ball from a high kick , whih led to a try but in possession was good.
Smith - Needs more game time, pretty solid
Tautai - Nothing flash, solid
Inu - Looked good when came to centre and payed outisde Hayne, scored a good try
Hayne - shared best player on field honours with Kris Keating, scored a try reminiscent of Kenny
K Keating - best on field, shame in a sense that he has to give way to Finch
Oake - very willing, did drop the ball a few times
Hauraki - Solid not prominent
Hindmarsh - typical, will never let you down
Cayless - disappointing , continues to try hard, lacks something at the moment
M Keating - would be happy with his game, does go too often when close to the line
Cordoba - very, very disappointing, actually dreadful

Mannah - shining light, started to turn the tide when he came on
Fui Fui - See Mannah
Galuvao - best game for the Eels, suggest he likes the coach
Wright - made Josh look second rate, very promosing display
Robson - not on for long
Lowrie - tried hard , but lacks first grade technique, almost turned the game the wrong way when he hit the only Roosters player outisde him on the chest, who ran 50 metres to put Rortes back in game. Then make 30 metre break and drops the ball, oh dear
Reddy - replaced Smith and nothing special in limited time

Neither side will threaten top 4 sides on this display, we have more to work with as the young players stood up
In Lowries defence I think he should have gotten awarded a penalty as it looked like the ball was stripped in a 2 man tackle, other than that it is good assesment of the game

I thought it was a bit of a loose carry actually. Poor Tood.

The five-tries-each bit has me happy, I suppose SKD was goalkicking? Haven't seen who was yet. Or Fitzy?...dear me if he was!

But definately no injuries to either side always good, good luck for 2009 Parra, hope to see you in September boys. :D

The last two of yours were in garbage time, and one of which was an intercept, so I wouldn't be that happy...

No, Fitzgibbon missed 2 or 3 I think. Didn't have a good night.

Yep, that's pretty much what it boils down to. Good luck to you as well.

They shared the kicking & both were crap at it. SKD missed a conversionn directly in front. I think it was Fitz 1/3 & SKD 1/2

Cordoba seemed have an arm injury after about 3 minutes, i thought he was ok last week however this week it just seemed like he never got over that early injury, he didn't get alot of game time.

Mannah should be in the 17 come round 1 imo, he was impressive.

I think KK did enough to keep Finch out but that won't happen and he will be on the bench in round 1.....

Matt Keating played about 70 minutes (only came off with 10 to go) he was very impressive, i like DA's style, the most impressive thing was that we were giving MK options!

We had plenty of options, plenty of people in motion, MK also looked very sharp.....could be a big year for him.

Hayne was outstanding, he looked dangerous with every touch!

Personally i think we need Fui to start with Cayless and Brod and Tim to come off the bench.

I don't think Lowrie was as bad as people make out, that intercept pass he threw was aweful, i was sitting right in front of it and i knew it was going to be an intercept before he even threw the ball! He made a few nice breaks though and defended strong.

The Roosters second try was a knock on, he never actually got the ball down.

Apart from the first 10 minutes i thought there were some really good signs and this year should atleast be better than last year!!!

I hope they were given strict instructions to go home and go to bed!!!!! No visits to Kings Cross this year!!!!

OMG - that almost brings a tear to my eye .... whenever we have players moving without the ball, we go good - but we just have hardly ever done it in recent times - don't know if it was fitness or bad coaching or what

From where i was sitting the try that Eric let in was hardly his fault. If you were actually at the game his legs were taken from under him while he was in the air. Other than that most of the tries that were let in or breaks made were down TT's side. Not much communication there. If you were not at the game wait until round 1 before potting someone ffs.

i have to agree with the first page... The two referee system is leading to alot of flat and/or forward passes getting missed. It was very frustrating watching the roosters get away with 3 or 4 in a row while they were attacking our line!

Ashley Klein is a douchebag - i hope he settles in a bit better for the real footy!

Well written Hames. I felt the same with people putting sh*t on Tood. Easy to read "he threw an intercept pass" and make a decision, but if you weren't at the game you couldn't see the MOUNTAIN of work he did in defence, and take into account the line breaks he made. Key Board jockeys FOR LIFE.

Also Ben Smith makes people hurt when he tackles them :D

I was thinking about it when watching the dragons-bunnies .... on tv, you seriously hardly see either ref on a wide-ish shot - which I think means they are BOTH standing back - and the main ref doing most the talking is on the defensive line and I reckon he's hanging back thinking "well I can't really tell if its forward, I'll leave it to the other guy" - and the other guy is behind the attacking team so he's thinking "well i can't really tell if its forward" - and of course touch judges are shultzes (i know nothing! i see nothing!) - so they are just being let go ...... in the past I think the single ref at least felt it was him who HAD to make a call so he did - some he'd get right others he'd get wrong or miss, but he tried .... but now they are just leaving it to eachother cos they don't know

Well Jess, if you are referring to my comments on Todd, he does do a lot of work, but basically no more than an experienced second rower should. Unfortunately, he does have a lot of mistakes in his game, and I think we should comment on these things. Eric had a very solid game, Todd is going to be very doubtful holding down his place if the younger players improve as expected.

I don't think many play favourites, I think he lacks some skills and I called last nights game as I think it was. Tha's all

I think before he threw the intercept pass and lost the ball after he made a break he was playing alright, and then Jess fell off her seat and it was all over.

And how good was it when Fui and then Tim took consecutive hit ups a few times and really smashed through the Roosters line :D Joe chipped in as well. Really got the crowd going! Haven't seen that for some time.
