If it is clear that the NRL is adding an additional team and that they want that team in Brisbane and an interested party fails to put in a bid, they they don't deserve a spot in the NRL.

If you are talking about the Firehawks, please give us a rundown of why the bid was so much more impressive against each of the the criteria set out by the NRL compared the the Dolphins' bid.

Dolphins were probably 5-10 years ahead of Tigers in asset proofing their bid with NRL-standard training facilities and revenue streams outside of their Leagues Club. On that basis Redcliffe deserved the 17th licence.

But, the whole situation has been f**ked by stupid decisions from the ARLC and Redcliffe. In my opinion, Redcliffe should have liaised with the Queensland Government to have a 35k stadium built in Moreton Bay and rebrand themselves as the Moreton Bay Dolphins. The bulk of their fans are based in Moreton Bay and will need to travel 40km to see them play at Lang Park.

Dolphin Oval isn't fit to hold NRL games and neither is Sunshine Coast Stadium. On top of this, the club has sold its soul by calling themselves The Dolphins, but aren't marketing themselves outside of Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast, despite playing most of their games at Lang Park. It would make sense to aggressively market themselves to everyone in SEQ because they'll need as much support as they can get from Brisbane, Logan and even Redlands to draw big crowds at Lang Park on a Thursday or Friday night.

I wasn't talking about hypothetical bids, or bids that failed to put in a bid, with the exception of Ipswich and the Bombers, whom would have put in independent bids except for the fact that they were pressured to merge by the NRL. So I honestly have no clue what you're talking about...

Why would I do that when the NRL's criteria were shit lol.

The NRL's (lets be honest; V'landys') criteria only really valued the net worth of each bid's assets, their "tradition"/"heritage"/[insert cliched buzzwords that can mean whatever the user wants them to in the moment here], and the opinion of stakeholders with deeply conflicted interests.

Being admittedly simplistic, what should have been the most important criteria was:

. market research to assess where the most potential support for a new club was based in the Brisbane metro area, and how much each team could realistically garner;
. what impacts, if any, the bids would have on the other teams and the league as a whole, positive and/or negative and how serious they were;
. potential return and growth across all the important metrics over the short, mid, and long term;
. finding the risk-return ratio of each bid and assessing it;
. doing the due diligence to make sure that the winning bid would actually have the means to support the club until it was sustainable, with and/or without assistance from the NRL.

Going on what information is public, Redcliffe would almost certainly fall down on two of those five points, and potentially a third, when compared to the other bids. They'd almost certainly pass the due diligence (that is if we're happy with another archaic leagues club funded team, but that's tangent), and the risk-return ratio is impossible for us to know without information that knowing the NRL A. probably doesn't exist for the most part, and B. will never be public knowledge even if it does.

That's almost certainly the way things will go anyway.

I'd be willing to bet that unless they see significant success on the pitch basically straight away, that they'll look to get Dolphin Stadium, or another venue in or close to Redcliffe, upgraded to be their fulltime home within the next few decades. Even if they are competitive that will only delay things anyway.

In other words it's only a matter of time before they abandon any pretence of attempting to be a Brisbane/pseudo SEQ club, and move back to Redcliffe to try and better connect with their main audience by playing out of a glorified suburban ground in front of suburban audiences.

Which, BTW, pretty much encapsulates why their bid should have been thrown straight in the trash.

Bid can’t come through nrlwa as that is now owned by nrl, ie the nrl would be bidding to itself lol. Real shame WARL is no longer independent and ceo as was John sackson has been silenced.

no idea why we arent hearing from the other 3 bidders, it’s an interesting one. I get the sense Cummins would be happy to be part of a bears bid and would be a sponsor/investor for a share and seat on the board. Puddy, he’s talked to the bears before and didn’t seem Impressed though he is now living in nsw so how serious he is about leading a consortium is hard to know, he says the right things but hard to know. Sage definitely wants nothing to do with bears as he wants to merge the operations of Glory and an NRL club.

Under the right circumstances it could work. 11 games in perth, license owned by perth people, rebranding to west coast or perth bears, Guaranteed investment in WA jnrs.
Then maybe.
If Bears want to own it then we should tell them to walk and we’ll just wait till we have Game leadership with some vision and bigger balls. We’ve waited two decades, another one to get it right is preferable to a NS club playing some games in perth.
