Haha PNG. People arguing for PNG but at the same time admonishing fumbleball for putting in the Suns and Giants possess a very strong cognitive dissonance.
Yeh a nation of 7 million crazy rugby league fans where the Australian and png govt are desperate to help is the same as a team playing in homebush and Canberra but which is supposed to represent the areas west of parramatta

If we had $643mill we could afford PNG in same way AFL can afford Suns. We still wouldn't have the balls to do it but we could at least afford it lol. For now its a pipedream.

Yeah where a majority of the population lives as subsistence farmers and the average wage is like $50 a week

Sounds like a great idea

It does actually, all you seem to care about is bottomline for cash in pocket, instead of giving a license to an area thay actually plays Rugby League, not dots on a fkn map aka Adelaide

money makes the world go round, nrl won’t be doing anything that doesn’t make it as much money as possible. Given our $400mill up and coming gap nor should they!

f**k your gap... a league and RU, actually most sports would love to be close to 2nd fiddle to alf in terms of money and support... rl has a responsibility to create good will not just run as a business... you guys are all flustered by broadcast deals, but none of that means shit coz the top players get the millions, not perth, not country rl, we should be looking at handing out licences to where they actually play the game...
North qld are a prime example of this, they played it, and ARL at the time acknowledged it and thought a Townsville based team could represent the vast country qld area way north of seq... we should be doing that and thensome

Who’s going to pay for it though? The government? Can you trust them to do it (refer NSW Government and the Stadiums) The NRL - if you think it was hard enough to get the Dolphins over the line imagine telling them that we are going to pump in $30m plus per annum etc with no return at all?

How are they going to recruit anybody if players are unwilling to go to NZ for example? Supporters and financial support? Investment in a stadium? COE? Corporate support? Are TV networks going to be interested in a PNG side seeing a majority of the games revenue comes from them?

Look, I’d actually love PNG to be feasible - it would be amazing to see a 30,000 or 40,000 seat stadium full of Papuans one day - but it is not until they become a developed or at least a semi developed economy with a stable government free of corruption.

The world doesn’t run on goodwill though. That’s harsh but it’s true. Somebody actually has to pay for this for it to work

Yeah coz thays what we need, to recruit aus players to use up and bend out a salary cap, in a png team...
Fairly sure when Auckland came into the comp they immediately thought " think of the marquee man from Australia" its the poorest excuse for not trying something new

Besides whats the difference between PNG hunters being funded how they are now?

What about them?
Walk the streets, win court case, and forever dilute sydney.... good will bwahahaha

Penrith having a team aswell.... no other sport would bother, they just call it greater western sydney.... good will, we have the vast majority of the junior comps, and are creating nrl grade players, so are most other clubs that would never reach your "dots of a map" criteria... canberra, illawarra, cronulla, manly

Are you seriously suggesting that they won’t need to recruit?

Also it was used as a comparison. If people don’t want to play for the Warriors and they can’t keep any of their players and they are a first world country, how to expect a third world country in PNG to be any better?

People advocating this have obviously never been to a third world country

A perfect affiliation. Green, Blue & White

Green jersey with blue & white trim Qld jersey

Royal Blue with green & white trim NSW Jersey

What Geelong is not a regional centre? Are Essendon or Carlton for example not suburbs of Melbourne? Does the A-League not have Newcastle and Central Coast in their competition? What about the NBL with Tasmania, Cairns or Illawarra?

Plenty of competitions with regional teams or suburbs of cities in their competition. Those competitions also have other things: they have teams in every major capital city and they also don’t put teams in third world countries.

Townsville might aswell be a 3rd world country
