In Wollongong at moment, the stadium here really needs 2 new stands and Dragons to play 8 games down here. Some marketing effort in the city wouldn't go amiss either, not seen a single thing or piece of merch anyone wearing so far for the Dragons.
NRL should pay for street signage and big posters at train stations etc announcing which club represents that area. Get the game in peoples faces!
Is there an Nrl comp running at the moment that im forgetting about... i know the world cup is on, but Wollongong isn't hosting games..
You're right though, WIN needs some help in stadium upgrades.. and that club is piss poor regarding promoting itself... about 10-15 years ago my lovely wife a dragons supporter couldn't get herself the alternate jersey from the nearby kogarah stadium... why coz their leagues club didn't have a merch store running.. was told to visit the local rebel...
I told her then and there, Penrith would never ever do that to their supporters... steelers club is really good tho in regards to merch.. had no issue months later getting that alternate jersey...

Whats WIN got to with WA bears btw

Shouldn't matter, I'm not talking about advertising games, I'm talking about advertising the clubs, that should be an all year round activity. They'll be selling memberships now or soon. Cracking town Wollongong though.

The difference between AFL and NRL is that NRL (via NSWRL and ARL expansions) has expanded to mid-sized regional markets, while AFL have expanded to the big metro markets - partly because they see better value in it, and partly because AFL-land doesn't have mid-sized markets like NSW or Queensland - so they have enough spots to put a team in each of the big metro markets, then double it.
The AFL's next target is Tasmania, a market they already have essentially to themselves and one that has what - 500,000 people on the whole island? I guess the NRL equivalent would be if there was no team in Newcastle and NRL were looking to expand there. So perhaps it could be argued that until they go to places like Canberra, North Queensland, Newcastle, Auckland or even put in a 3rd team in Sydney or South-East Queensland then it could be argued that their expansion plans north of their Bargearsei Line are either on hold or effectively at maximum capitalisation.

On the other hand, it'd be a brave soul to say that the NRL was at maximum capitalisation in WA, SA or even Victoria.

I saw a fan at an Illawarra Hawks game wearing a Dragons jersey. It would be good if the NRL and NBL teamed up to promote one another.

Yeah, the feeling I'm getting is that the AFL has bitten off more than they could easily chew with the Giants & especially Suns, and that's put them off any more expansion in RL/RU-land.

I actually wonder if AFL had Newcastle lined up as a potential expansion market, given they have the biggest population outside the capitals.

Anyway, I guess the reaction to the Giants & Suns is expansion to a "safe" AFL heartland for team 19 (likely Tasmania).

Team 20 will be an interesting choice - do they venture again into the east, try to stake a claim for Canberra, or stay with a "safe" AFL-land choice like a 3rd WA team?

I wouldn't rule out another relocation being in the mix too - whether that's a failing Melbourne club, or the Giants and/or Suns.

The Hunter and Central Coast are bigger population-wise than Tasmania yet they're going to Tasmania which says a lot. Team 20 - who knows? Nauru maybe?

Afl going to tasmania would be essentially nrl going to central coast

they’ve tapped out their growth potential now especially with the failure of the suns and giants

meanwhile the nrl is looking at a 20 team competitom that beats theirs hands down

The only problem with potential is it is worthless unless you realise it!

if they do it’s because the tassie govt are stupid enough to be funding it and the afl has failed to convince a failing melbourne team to relocate Permanently.
Them not having a team there now they’ve tied up all the metro markets would be like us having teams in all metro markets and not one in Newcastle yet.

Yeah coming from the Hunter, I just can’t see a fumbleball team being successful here. You would also need to have a significant investment in terms of facilities

North Melbourne Kangaroos are on death's door. I wouldn't be surprised to see them relocate.
