Maybe we can get St. Helens to move to perth lol
I actually don't think that's a bad idea in principle.
Make Perth the preferred team of poms to play for. Like another thread has touched on, the Super League to basically be a stepping stone for the NRL, and Perth to take it as a genuine feeder 'club' so to speak.
Heaps of ex-pats have settled there. Case in point.

Actually there was originally a proposal for Perth to join super league (in England) not the super league they did join in Australia lmao

that could be a good way to dump our problem on them with the bonus being all the whiny Perth fans on here will also vanish

That is a pretty funny post and I did laugh out loud literally.
But I'm being a little bit serious here.
I've read all the pros and cons from the LU 'elite' on this topic.
If it was structured this way, getting th3 best Super League players into that team, combined with, hopefully, growing juniors. It would take away the concerns of some to the trend towards draining other local Leagues.
Their building of the club could be structured this way from the start.
They would also grab the Glory fans straight away, plus all the easterners who have moved over.
It also brings up the international game, as the OS players would be playing in the best competition in the world consistently.
Also would bring fans from the eastern states who normally wouldn't care.... I'm talking about all the poms living over this side. It would give them an actual team to follow with passion.
I honestly think it would work.

If I’m a betting man 65 percent team 18 is Perth

the wa govt are going to do what it takes to get the bid for their state

nz still have a chance but there is no activity from their government supporting a bid

vlandys adding the dolphins and Perth is a fantastic legacy he leaves behind for the sport (hopefully he hangs around and adds brisbane 3 and nz2)

I shouldn’t get so much joy out of bagging Perth or the storm but it’s like shooting fish in a barrel

I'm no betting man at all. My mates who are always freak out at me because if they entise me to bet i always win.
To me it's not a barometer of who we are as a person. I take logical guesses based on feeling.
I'm allowed to as I'm not invested in the process.
They all think too much because something rides on it.
In the case of Perth investing in Super League good players merged with local talent is a win/win.
I'm actually now thinking of Eastern state support. Sydney and Brisbane no problem, add in the Melbourne contingency who wouldn't have to follow AFL anymore, or the Storm.
I'd actually feel very confident in they'd be a powerhouse team/club very soon after existence.
My gut and inner feelings are saying 'f**k yeah!'

Full disclosure, I'm of Gamilaraay and Irish convict stock.
To have a team to hate is very nearly as close to having a team to love.

How come St George has never tried to market itself to the English?

Having the name "St George" makes it the perfect candidate to represent the country that has the Cross of St George on its flag.

St George Lions would be a great rebrand for the club.

St. George is not the patron saint of England alone.
He is shared with Catalonia, Portugal, Ethiopia, Venice plus numerous others. I think even the country Georgia is named after him.

Of what benefit would this be to a team located in Sydney though?

I have a more radical suggestion, why not try to market the team to the people who live locally?

The club could share matches between, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. Kogarah is a dump and Wollongong Showgrounds ain't much better.

How has that worked?

The club had to merge with Illawarra and has struggled for the best part of a decade.

It would def be one of my strategies! Closest to fly home to see family, time difference easier for ringing family, awesome place to live the beach lifestyle, full of english already. Nrl should give a perth team an extra $1-2mill a year cap dispensation to sign players from union or England for first ten years whilst we are building the WA systems.

Dragons is one of the best and most unique mascots in Australian sport, why the f**k would you change it to Lions?
