90% of English people would never have heard of the Kangaroos. They'd say 'Whats NRL"?

Getting the NRL on FTA in England would be a massive step forward (id give one game a week and Origin to Ch4 for free ) , but Australia's general ambivalence to growing RL through Internationals, WCC, etc shows there's little appetite here for pushing the brand beyond East coast boundaries.
Australia’s reluctance is solely because England are crap

We should be looking at getting it on FTA in England, Canada, America and all throughout Asia. Even if it's just a magazine show highlighting all of the games.

I think Australians, in general, don't realise how little the English (and Brits) know or even care about Australia.

Having lived there, you realise how we just aren't a pressing concern for them. Nobody knows who the current PM is, nobody knows much about our culture, let alone our sporting culture.

The majority of discussion would revert back to tropes about convicts etc. Particularly in London there was almost a dismissive air of "another pisshead Aussie" when you spoke to them. Most Aussies, start to effect a southern English accent after a year or so, just to avoid this stereotyping.

Same goes for perception in the rest of the world, obviously.

In Britain where they have had Subscription TV since the late 80s, and streaming services now for a decade, being on FTA is nothing.

If the English SL can't get on FTA why would they show the NRL?

Sam Burgess and James Graham would certainly get recognised far more often in Oxford St Sydney then Oxford St London.

Simple is as simple types. GB were even further behind in the 80's yet a Kangaroos jersey was the pinnacle of the sport and games sold out in UK. The only reason is Australian myopia and ambivalence to the international game. Look at the dumb decision to cut mid season tests here.

So 7 of the 21 were on FTA a decade ago.

What about the last Decade?
CC and internationals has always been on the BBC. We used to get French RL on BBC back in the day. Not having SL on FTA has been a massive anchor for the English game. IMG using their connections to get it on Ch4 is massive and a huge step forward. Id love to see 2 games a week on Ch4 and 3 on Sky. They pay a pittance now anyway, f**k news ltd.

Nope

interest in the 80s and early 90s was very high

if you had to pick one game it was the year australia won something like 68 to 10 in Sydney

and the test at the scg marking the centenary of in rl as well

when gi ran a train on gb

Poor canard this really isn’t his strong point

I was arguing ten years ago super league needed to be on fta

every game needs to be on pay or fta

the arl grew significantly once all games were televised

err your arguing against yourself again lol. Despite GB/england generally being sht in comparison to Kangaroos for nigh on 40 years, International Rl has still had times when its flourished and been very profitable for both nations. Not surprising it was the times Australia actually cared about playing international RL, unlike now.

Time difference is a killer for NRL on UK TV but one live game (Saturday night late game) and a NRL weekly show on Ch4 (maybe book ending the SL game) would go down well and expose NRL and its sponsors to a whole new market of 1/2 million viewers.

Because the crowds won’t come anymore

they’ve been sold too many lemons from England teams masquerading as being competitive
