Imagine instead of cutting down to four Sydney teams it actually goes up by 0.5

happy days
It's like sitting at a table and ordering a pizza, then realising there's 9 other people at the table

Sure it's the best pizza in the country, there's enough for you to all have a slice (actually the two .5s are sharing one), and youve ensured theres no leftovers for any others to pinch, but the whole time you'd be thinking man, I wish there was less of us and I could enjoy more of this to myself

I not sure I knew where I was going with that I think I might just be hungry

Considering they would be playing a good chunk of their away games in Sydney regardless, and that NSO is barely fit for purpose as an NRL ground it's baffling they are sticking so hard to that non negotiable, and quite telling as to how they would treat the expansion market they would supposedly be representing if they got in

It's annoying because if done right it could work, the brand and colours is strong, and a club properly dedicated to the expansion market could have a partnership and academy with NS in the lower grades, and would also have to ability to sell away memberships to the 5-8 or so away games around Sydney for any old bears fans who decide to jump on board (although I doubt there would be many left and willing)
It’s also crazy as this is likely one of their last realistic chances to be readmitted in some form. Once Gen Y and younger start to hold the balance of power in business and politics in the future they‘ll never get a look in again. Bears nostalgia will mean very little to them.

They need to be taking whatever is given to them and fully committing to a new city.

I’d rather not have a club here for another twenty years than have the parasite bears playing in perth. PNG bears will be like one of those motorway pile ups you just can’t look away from no matter how horrible you know it’s going to be.
The smart thing to do is to tie up the bears now by offering them 25 to 40 percent ownership, 2 home games at nso and the name and the colours then have the 60 percent owned by one of those other rich backers

that bid would be unbeatable but I doubt Perth are smart enough to do this

Don’t need it don’t want it, the license can not sit with north Sydney, clearly that’s a non negotiable For them.

You’ve sat down with the bears chairman and decided this is the case

or just read an article and listened to an interview
No I’ve just read everything they’ve said, including todays latest doubling down Of their non negotiables, not sure how much clearer you want them to be about their intentions.

Have they stated if they would adopt the new markets location name or would they be a second team representing "the"?
They've never come out and clearly stated their plans for the name in particular, and they've been sending mixed messages for years now.

In the past people associated with the Bears have said that they wouldn't change the name, and subtilty alluded that they'd go with just "The Bears". But they've never outright said it either, and that could be interpreted to just mean that they wouldn't consider changing the Bears name to anything else, like Grizzlies or Bruins for example.

More recently guys like Moore and Dickson have been referring to "The Perth Bears" and "Pasifika Bears", so maybe they are open to making that change, but who really knows, that could just be short hand.

One thing is for sure though, a sizeable portion of the fanbase want, or even expect, it to be just The Bears, if they win a license to be based in another city. Who knows how that would play out though.
