WA BEARS

Considering all this, did the Bears really get back in the NRL here? Or did their mascot just get adopted by the new Perth team in exchange for a pathways affiliation?

I'm not complaining as I want this new club to be all about Perth but this isn't really North Sydney Bears getting back into the NRL.

You've summed it up succinctly on a business level, which is why the shape of the new club's branding will be so important.

If the new owners want to roll out "This is the all-new Bears for WA" then they're leaving money on the table by being transparently standalone and might as well not even enter into the partnership, but if they roll it out looking like "The Bears are back and now playing out of WA" then they'll set themselves up to be the only club with a substantial supporter base on both coasts.

They've got their whole future to evolve and appeal to WA but if those existing fans feel alienated right off the bat then they're never coming back.

Now the real challenge is can anyone who wants to retort do it without using "SyDnEy CeNtRiC"?

Wow we have some real snowflakes here don’t we? Some very sensitive Sydney Centric snow flakes.

3 grumpy old men and a dog obsessed with playing manly at norf Sydney Oval is not a substantial supporter base.

As I said earlier- the bears fans have been thrown a very small bone by the nrl. Hopefully it shuts them up.
I guess either way it will because it they aren't happy it's too bad because there will already be a Bears team in the NRL. What on earth will the journos replace the annual 'Bring back the Bears' story with?

I was wondering when and who the first person to take this position would be.

If it's more akin to Perth "licensing" the Bears brand from North Sydney, then it might actually avoid a lot of the boardroom dysfunction that's kneecapped all the other joint ventures (to varying degrees) the league has seen so far.

That's not a bad thing.
I understand the opinion. I don’t like the term “licensing”. Beside the point though.

Let’s wait for the detail to be announced officially first.

There won’t be any current or previous North Sydney Bears board members on the Western Bears board but there will eventually be Bears-people as board members in the future. People with fresh ideas and modern day commercial/corporate nous.

It will be 100% WA operated and majority WA owned but not 100% WA owned. Interstate minority ownership might stop with Sydney owned and operated TSE but then again it might not and there might be more interstate investors in the near future. Really depends how big the WA chairman wants to make the club.

Board members etc come and go. Whether there’s North’s affiliated people or not is irrelevant. What’s important is the best available people are picked to run the club/franchise to the best capacity & capability.

Keeping parasites away from the Board will be essential. Having people from a failed Sydney Club as far away as possible is probably a good strategy. I hope that helps.

No one from 1999 is on the current Norths board so what difference would that make.

If all else fails they could always recruit board members that assault women like Sharkies. Is that more your cup of tea?
