Waltzing's Request: Lock Me In

I thought he was just buggered. Wasn't it you who came to the same conclusion when talking about the kick he put in?

@JM, I wanted to put Simmo in Tolar's spot but felt he made more of an impact than Tolar and as such would be better off the bench than he was. Tolar is an excellent grafter in the opening exchanges, but not a hole punching power runner.
yep that was me, I also said he didn't look well. He was standing right next to us and was really struggling, I mean it looked more than being just tired.

i think house has as much fan appeal as any second rower. no-one will ever match BK in that regard though.

hilder is more or less in the exact same mould as billy peden.

basically all your post says is that we don't have a BK anymore karma. the thing is, no team does at the moment. our outside backs have the ability and flair to put plenty more bums on seats to compensate... particularly aku and sau.

Are you suggesting that Matt Hilder has the same fan recognition and respect of the Knights fans that Bill Peden once had?

Oh come on.

I like Matt Hilder ALOT - a top footballer, but they can't even be compared in that regard.

Bill Peden was loved because he was a Cessnock boy who came through our lower grades and became one of the best toilers we've ever had at our club, and a once in a generation clubman.

Right, perhaps then, I was of the thinking that limited game time had him lacking fitness.

Karma we're in a transitional period, we have a number of lpayers who could be bonafide crowd pullers once they mature into legitimate rep stars. Uate (even before he reps) Sau, Pato, Mullo.

I do agree with that.

Especially Uate. He could become a player with a huge cult following.

If only some marketing whiz could come up with some kinda physical gimmick like the wolfman's beard and Uate would be a superstar.

Maybe some kinda mohawk, or hair dye.

he has 2 "physical gimmicks" - he is as dark as the night and he is damn quick.

but you are right

we will love him much more if he has blue hair

He just needs to ham it up (although he seems like a quiet kid a few post try celebrations with flair would help), have a few clever Knights game advertisements with a play on his name or a nickname based on his speed and try scoring prowess. Characterize his skill and ability and weave it into a slightly manipulated persona of the dude. Done correctly he would be worth more than we could ever pay him and guarantee an extra 1000 fans each week, merchandise sales, etc etc etc.

I think Uate should introduce me to those cute Fijian girls who used to follow him around.
It wouldn't do me any good, but i'd love him forever for trying.

Pretty keen for our back row to remain:

11. House
12. Taia
13. Hilder

Hmmm how times have changed from

11. Simpson
12. Kennedy
13. Peden

And we wonder why the crowds are so much smaller now.

You are so ungrateful for what Smithy & co have done to rebuild this side over the past few years - would you prefer we still have Hagan and our handful of nuffies waiting for the next home grown Simpson or Peden to start playing for the Nock? At least in that case your prediction of finishing 12th or worse this year might come to fruition ;-)

he has 2 "physical gimmicks" - he is as dark as the night and he is damn quick.

Is that your lame attempt at trying to call him the Dark Knight? Or even the Dark Flash, or the Fijian Flash - ha ha

10th was my prediction.

I've stated that at times we look like a team that is more 12th-16th.

Hopefully that ordinary form earlier this year is behind us.

I think we need to go into the battle with a workaholic back 3 namely

13. Hilder
12. Taia
11. House

with the flair and impact of forwards Patto, Faas and Simmo off the bench when the defence becomes a little fatigue.

sorry.. we were speaking on different levels. hilder is the unsung hero of the team, much like billy peden was most of his career.

nice of you to ignore the rest of the valid points in my post too.

I was never comparing them as footballers Perverse.

The only comparisons I was making about any of the players named, was purely on fan popularity, recognition and a feeling of relating to them closely for whatever reason.

Well 99/100 players that are embraced by the knights faithful are going to be locals. having an all-local team when smith came in simply wasn't an option. once again, you could whinge on either side of the argument really. you're very good at it.

kennedy was a massive outlier in regards to fan popularity at the knights.. and that's because he gave 1000% every match and was a phenomenal player.

He goes alright. He doesnt bend the lind or anything but picks his runs well, does do some good tackling work... HOWEVER:

Patto
House
Taia

Has the potential to be one of the best backrows in the comp, acutally overstatement but with those 3 I dont see how we going to start Taia...

They'd have a long way to go before they perform as a trio in a game of footy like Lafranchi, Minicello and Harrison performed last night for the Titans, and that's just the first combination that popped in my head.

Probably one of the most dominating backrow performances combined I've seen for a long time.

I can't believe people aren't considering simpson in the run on side. A few weeks after he gets back, I have no doubt a lot of people will be eating their words.

Simpsons future is at prop I think. He's just not as mobile as our other backrowers anymore. Plus we have heaps of backrowers and few quality props.

Also Simmos best game last year was at prop. Can't remember who we played but it got him selected for origin.
