"Here is another good article written on the war by respected journalist john Pilger"

When did John Pilger become respected.
I think he is the worst example of bleeding heart liberal, sensation seeking, one-side telling journalist on the face of the planet, and I think the vast majority of people agree with that assessment.

To tell you the truth I have only read a few of his articles after he was recomended to me by a friend. After your reply I decided to look up what I could find about the guy. Here is what I found.

John Pilger was born and educated in Sydney. he has been a war correspondent, film-maker and playwright. Based in London, he has written from many countries and has twice won British journalism's highest award, that of 'Journalist of the Year', for his work in Vietnam and Cambodia. Among a number of other awards he has been 'International Reporter of the Year' and winner of the 'United Nations Association Media Prize'. For his broadcasting, he has won an 'American Television Academy Award', an 'Emmy' and the 'Richard Dimbleby Award', given by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. His latest TV documentary, his 50th, Apartheid Did Not Die! - will be shown in Australia by the ABC in June.
'Pilger's strength is his gift for finding the image, the instant that reveals all: he is a photographer using words instead of a camera' ... Salman Rushdie
'John Pilger is fearless. He unearths, with steely attention to facts, the filthy truth, and tells it as it is ... I salute him.' ... Harold Pinter

John Pilger is a monumental wanker. Taking notice of what that prat has to say would be worse than basing your interpersonal skills on Idi Amin's.

Don't love thy neighbour, eat thy neighbour.

I've read a bit of Pilger's stuff and Roopy is right.

Geez, I didn't know this guy would provoke such a reaction, is this how you feel about all aussies who leave Australia for the motherland? ;)

Before we go any further, you say he is a wanker, thats fine, but is he a liar?

No, we love Dame Edna so there goes your theory.

Pilger is a cock. I don't particularly think he's a liar, he's just very selective and rarely positive. He isa great example of the worst of journalism. To spend all your time on negative things turns you into a total arsehole with no real perspective.

If he was a League writer, everyone here would want to kill him.

Just be thankful he isn't a Kiwi.

Spacemonkey, my wife, who is Lebanese tends to disagree with your statment about Syria and I do too. Syria are still very much in the picturein Lebanon and are actively supporting several terrorist organisations, including Hezbollah. Syria was responsible for much of the devestation in Lebanon and they still have an occupying force in Lebanon so I don't know where you got your facts from about Lebanon but I can assure you Syria are a dangerous country and one who actively support terrorists.
Legend, I wasn't aware of the fact that Syria still had an occupying force in Lebanon, I was under ythe impression that Lebanon was an independent soveriegn nation. If what you say is right I stand corrected.
I am aware of the Hezbollah connection with Syria, but I in that case you'd have to finger Iran and Libya as targets for a US invasion as well and I seriously hope that that doesn't happen, economic pressure would be a more appropriate way to discourage them from backing terrorists.
And as a side note If we're talking about occupying forces in the regionhow about kicking the Israelis out of the Golan Heights?

About John Pilger.
Joe, youre quite right that he has the credentials and and is the field all the time. Its a little unfortunate thatsome will write him off the same way that others write off shock-jocks like Alan Jones.

If I was to say that I dont agree with everything Pilger says but he does make a lot of sense, I'd be sounding like folk who enjoy listening to Alan Jones or Pauline Hanson. It goes without saying that Pilger's credentials are far better but he still has extreme views and therefore allows this to cloud his judgment from time to time. But offcourse, everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how much we disgaree with them.

Despite the angerPilger generates, many people read some of his stuff just to get the view from the other side... this being against a barrage of daily pro-western news reports. Heaven knows that we read what's dished up to us, so we should also read what others consider to be out of line.... be it on the left or right side of politics.

IMO, Pilgerhas to be be treated in the same way as commercial networks such as CNN. In that I mean, you should always remain sceptical about all things reported and be prepared to pose questions. I think he'd probably agree.

I was wondering when the Yanks were going to start screaming about the Geneva Convention and the fact you cannot put POWs in humitiating positions.

You will all start to see a lot of the gung ho bullshit of the last week and the lead up to it start to dissipate when the first body bags arrive on US soil in a couple of days.

I wonder if those POWs in Cuba, that facility is Guantanamo Bay are being treated as per the Geneva Convention..I think not. The Yanks have set the precedent for traeting POWs like shit now there own blokes are going to wear and it will not be pretty.

As for John Pilger, he has more balls and brains than most of his critics put together. He does not travel in armoured convoys and carry eskies of chilled wine and savouries..he puts himself in dangerous positions to try and give the aspect of those under the hammer. If there were more journalists of the ilk of Pilger there would be more respect for journalism as a professions.

Horse shit Beast. If there were more journalists like Pilger, there'd be less Journalists. Open season on the bastards. It would be encouraged.

Pilger is a pillock. It's a pity that he hasn't stepped on a land mine.

We live in hope though.

Is he in Iraq at the moment carring out his journalistic duties and kneeling before Hussein?

I thought you didnt like political threads EA. But don't hold back... which knee does Pilger favour while kneeling before Saddam? <hr> News says that the sand storms are picking up but even before that, the coalition advance has been slowing the further inland they get.

Hope I'm wrong but this is going to be a long war.

Duque, that article pretty much confirms what Pilger said. Iraq has no capabilities of making new WMD and if it has any left over from before they are virtually useless now.

Willow, I hate them. But when I clicked into what's new and saw the word "Pilger" I couldn't help myself. The bloke is a king sized twat. The offending journalistic episode where I first gleaned my opinion of this guy is better left not aired. It would be the only subject we could discuss that would be more emotive than this one.

The left knee, he stuffed the right one on one of his other "I'm the champion of the downtrodden" jaunts.

EA, I know Pilger makes people angry - they don't like hearing that western policies are beating up on the third world. Even the suggestion of it gets an aggro response.

The stuff that Joe posted starts off with Pilger revealing that the US and UK have been playing a game of deception over Iraq's 'weapons of mass destruction'. If what he says is true than we shoouldnt be too surprised. Its been obvious from the begiinning that the USA wanted to get at Iraq and any excuse would do.

Part of the article says that the US have been targeting civilians. He based this on a his first-hand account. Now we dont know this becuase we werent there. He expects us to take his word for it so we have to keep an open mind on the examples he has given.

The rest of the article is Pilger speculating and thats where we have to treat is as opinion only. In any case, he is going on about how the coalition will continue to deceive and probably plant 'proof' of chemical weapons within Iraq. He bases this on the past history of the USA and in particular the activities of the CIA.

Now once again, we have to take this as 'possibilities' only. Nevertheless, none of this should come as a surprise. Still, I can't believe / disbelieve it until the evidence becomes overwhelming and /or I see evidence to the contrary. I see a second article which backs Pilger up has been posted by El Duque and there are probably more of the same if anyone investigates it further.

The problem is that with truth being a low priority during wartime, we may never know the full story.

errrkkk

Sorry, Pilger will never, ever have any form of legitimacy in my eyes. I don't care what he's talking about. Reading and commenting on his stuff just encourages the turd.

If he says Black is black, get a second opinion.

Yep, and that what happened, we got a second opinion, the article that Duque posted. It seemed to say exactly the same thing.
