Wayne Bennett and future coach talk

Is there a story to this?? Ive never heard this about the Maddog...

I'm not sure if they were a thing of legend or true. Probably a mixture of both.

I think the stories go something along the lines of him opting out of group skills sessions etc and choosing to train a bit on his own. And then there were games where he was passed fit to play but pulled out due to niggling injuries or having a flu/virus etc. Most stories seem to happen from close to the time he went to join Souths, so there may have been some butthurt from Newcastle supporters.

Don't quote me on the legitimacy of any of that, but they are just the little things that seemed to get mentioned from time to time.

The real question here is WHY doesnt Bennett want Stone to get the job? They must not get along very well considering 3 years down the track and the master coach doesn't consider Stone the best man for the job. There is a very interesting story in there if true
Knights Stoned
With Garth Brennan pulling out of the race for the Knights job, you can put down Rick Stone as the man to succeed Wayne Bennett. Why won’t the Knights make it public? Because Bennett doesn’t want Stone to get the job… and officials are worried he will use his influence with club supremo John Quayle to veto the appointment.

considering everything that has happened, the fact bennett doesn't want stone probably indicates he is the best man for the job

bennett should be marched out the door

As the above article stated, Bennett's previous endorsements for his succession were Henjak & Price. Considering their tenures at their respective clubs, I think a nod & wink from Bennett should count against a candidate. The last kind of coach we need right now is someone who gets his position through who he knows rather than on merit.

Just give us Stone already. I think he is well
and truly ready. Just don't be expecting the knights to be winning premierships in the next few years fellas. And don't tear strips off Stonemif we don't. All I want to right now im who is constistally hurting teams physically and giving it they got and love for the jersey. Emotion and grit. Consistently. No more pea hearted performances. Stone I believe can get them playing for each other and the town again.

And if it Stone announced this week I really hope the board have enough guts to put him in charge over Bennett immediately. Let him back in. If we have to pay out Bennett then do so. Money is obviously there. Just move him on like we would ANY other coach who has announced they are leaving a year early because they don't believe they can do anymore for the team anymore.

Where did that come from? The Lurker? That bloke never has any idea. He's always wrong.

If they want Stone to be coach he will be. Besides making a suggestion Bennett won't have much of a say. He shouldn't a say and frankly I doubt he'd care enough to fight it when he's outa here.

If Midley listens to Bennett's suggestion though and goes against what he feels is best for the club it will further prove to me that he doesn't have what it takes to be a CEO. The fact that this has taken so long tells me that they're delaying the process because they're scared about making a decision.

Will we ever be a professional club?

Does Midley have it in him to fire his younger brother?

I doubt we'll ever be a club with much attraction to outside players. We need to put all our money and effort into developing our juniors and retaining them. Can't afford to let the likes of Inglis, Bird or even John Morris let go... That has to be our club model.

Apparently Mick Crawley is going to flush his career down the toilet by signing a 2 year deal with Canberra very soon

Aw shit.

He had so much potential as a coach too. Hopefully Stuart doesn't sink his teeth into him.

Pretty pumped about that. We are anemic in attack, and he was in charge of our attack in 08 when we were actually exciting to watch, and his work with the knights this year has been impressive

with a bit of luck he'll be our HC by 2017

I wish him luck, he's gonna need it under Stuart.

Canberra would be his easiest path to coaching FG with Ricky surely a dead man walking in a year or so...just hopefully he bides his time and doesn't listen to a word the moron says.

I just hope he doesn't take too many of our NYC side with him. Luckily the best of the batch are signed up and have been spending more time with FG lately. It's worrying though.

I wouldnt complain if he brought Mamo with him or one of those Mata'utia boys with him, but i know what it's like to lose star kids like that and it sucks. So i actually hope they keep them all.

SMH Danny Weidler suggesting Brennan pulled out of the race for the head coaching gig due to the Gidley 'clique' situation. According to Weidler, the Gidley's are Rick Stone boys.

I take anything that germ writes with a pinch of salt, however would 100% believe that, and just goes to show the inmates are still running the asylum
