They showed a stat with about 4 overs to go and games that dhoni was not out at the end was like 47 wins and 1 loss.

The napkin maths says he would've got them home if guptil didn't finally do something in this world cup.

It’s a bit of a stupid stat though because it only highlights the number of times he’s last man standing after everyone else like Jadeja made the sacrifice play.

When he bombs the chase, and he often does lately, he usually gets out at the death. The commentary fap was using the stat in a weird way that made it look like it’s a guaranteed win because he’s out there.

Feel for Jedeja a bit, what a day he had...

Bottom line is despite all the experts here bagging them, our two world class bats scored 141 runs SR .76, theirs scored 2 runs SR .2

Runs win you games, not SR, and I am glad that the wickets haven't always been roads...

Well done NZ

The opening bowling spell of 10 overs or so was where it was won, without that India win. Hope Starc and co take note, it’s where we lost it v SA.

Hoping another cracker tonight and hopefully a NZ v Aust Mk II FINAL. Though I expect the poms to do us

Keep telling yourself that JJ.

Was this your tune when Saint Baz had a high strike rate???

Yes you were proven correct. I still think we were 20 short but our bowlers were outstanding and all those early chances seemed to go to hand.

It's good being in a final with a bit less expectation than 2015. Maybe they won't be so overawed on the day.

We were definitely 20-30 short, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

The fact that Jadeja was able to singlehandedly reel it back after such a great start shows it. We were honestly one bad over from losing this match; Dhoni played right into our hands + if Kane brought Neesh back early and J tonks a couple more boundaries, India win.

It was a brilliant effort to win the match, one of our best, but we won by a thread and we can't expect the Aus/Eng top order to tank in the final.

always about context...

we were 20 or so short, but this wasn't a blaze at 100+ SR wicket... they expected DL I think, and also expected that someone could get away a quick 30 late - one of them or the all-rounders

Great match though - and TBH I like how we stepped up hugely from the last few

Jadeja was the only player to get going in that sense... The Indian top order didn't tank, Boult and Henry were brilliant...

But yeah, we're the underdogs, no mistake - I didn't rate our chances in that game, and I don't rate them in the final - but we have a chance

if ever MS had a stage to show his true ability then this was his big chance

the problem is, he really did show his true ability

MS Dhoni. What utter arrogance. The lad was blocking and leaving deliveries when the run rate required was ballooning out over 11. With 6-7 overs to go, with a settled partnership, India should have closed that out but Dhoni was putting way too much pressure on Jadeja. Was the old prick playing for his average again?

Epic effort from NZ. And a bit of an eye opener that Williamson and Taylor may very well have summed that wicket up to perfection in their partnership to get to a defendable total.

Bring it on. Love to win this bad boy.

Shows you the arrogance and disrespect

Agreed. If you are a top 5 bat, and you are not out at the end, generally you are going to win.

What pisses me off the most is that Dhoni would have been hailed a national hero if he pulled it off, and it always boils down to sacrificing his mates and having an arsey slog, which looks spectacular when it works and swept under when it doesn't.

The worst example that springs to mind is when he heaved Clint McKay straight to the man on the boundary off a front-foot no ball. Deadset bottled it but survived, hit's another six and suddenly he's god.

Today it was a 100 partnership and Jadeja contributed about 70 of it while taking every risk.
Dhoni might have hit a couple and been given all the credit, just like the '11 WC final.

Even now they're calling it a brave match-turning innings, if the greedy f**king plod wasn't constantly playing for himself there's dozens of games where they'd have coasted home.

That stat is absolutely useless though and only exists so BCCI commentators can tow the party line on Dhoni.

A bloke who bats at #7 is regularly at the wicket when a side wins the chase? Colour me shocked. Where's the stat on how India do when Dhoni gets out in the last five overs?

You could hear it in the commentary - Ganguly kept fapping about the great man, the legendary Dhoni, whilst Smith kept making thinly veiled jabs that Dhoni was bottling the chase and batting selfishly. Who was right?
