My favourite half post Sterling was David Penna. Never overplayed his hand and could kick living sh*t out of the ball.

Answer me this, is Monaghan eligible for the halfback of the year award?

Neither is T Smith....Only quality players win those mate...

How many times has Orford, a guy with hundreds of games under his belt, won his side a final or even taken control? There's a reason he hasn't played Origin...

Same amount as the best in the game currently...Idiot...

As for your last comment, did you even read what I said FFS? The top 4 sides in the NRL at the moment are Melbourne, Manly, NQLD and NZ...does that mean that the latter two are automatically as good as the first two? Of course it f**king doesn't. No different really

No but it does mean that they are close....Massive difference really...Three and Four have a chance to be as good or better than One or Two this season....

In all seriousness

Tim is a good halfback in a good team

all halfbacks suffer in teams that don't have a strong forward pack but Timmy seems to suffer a lot more then others

bullsh*t, Sherwin has the best forward in the game in his side yet struggles to dominate, our forwards apart from a couple are soft as sh*t! they make 30 metres a 6 roughly and then people expect Tim to create all these miracle plays, fmd!

Was I the first to suggest that Tim Smith wasn't up to it.
*waits for the barrage of abuse to start*
I don't necessarily hold that view now, but I was just curious to know if I am a soothsayer.

Just about to mention Dave Penna ! AND thats what Im talking about. Dave would never throw a miracle ball or kick a backwards banana kick but he was steady the team knew what he was doing..

I wasn't around during the Penna era, but how old was Penna?

Are we forgetting that Tim Smith is a young halfback who's made the big grades on the back of a superb debut season?

By the way, we looked mighty good in 2005, and guess who our halfback was?

Not saying Tim is our messiah, but I believe our biggest issue is our forward pack.

Wow Pete change your mind after one game of a player, yet stick loyal to a well-documented looser in B Smith?

Stop being fairweather, and look at the game and analysie it properly without any preconcieved thoughts or biasness.

Finch played well hey? no so much a mouse fart can be heard on him, wonder why...

since 05 we've lost stringer, morrison, widders, vella and peek

3 props and 2 backrowers replaced with

cordoba, ian hindmarsh, mateo, (regulars)

Yeah to be fair, I think that Ben Smith is without doubt the biggest pretender that Parra has but I have been giving it to Tim because Tims position is more important.

But seriously Ben Smith has been exceedingly bad for a while now.

So that's a no....Timmy is eligible you clown, he just won't win it because the other three are better than he is by a long shot

Wait...so Orford is as good as Thurston? That's news to me....I'll take that for the cop out it is

So by your logic no one is the fourth best halfback in the game because it's an insult to compare them to the top three? That makes perfect sense

Ben Smith is a well documented loser

Brian Smith you dickhead:lol: the guy you idolise, the coach that has done nothing since rule changes in 2002, the guy that wil have the wooden spoon this year with a side that came 4th last year.

That in itself is a bit of a problem.

I believe Mateo is filling Widders' creative lock role, and Cordoba is filling Vella's role. Ian Hindmarsh is being used as a defensive prop/second-rower, so I guess he replaced Peek. But then who repalced Stringer, a consistent metre-gaining forward?

Morrison and Stringer are the types of players we're missing - one was a defensive back-rower who could also make metres with the ball, and the other was a metre-eating prop.

And it's little surprise that we were doing quite well when we had a 17-man team consisting of 4 props (2 starters and 2 benchies) and 2 starting defensive back-rowers (the Hindy brothers) with an attacking lock (Mateo). We had a balance.

Recently, though, we've been focusing too much on mobility and defence, and as a result, our attack has struggled. It's obvious to see that the majority of the blame has been shifted onto our halves' shoulders.

agreed , although i think that the metre eater forward we are looking for in the mould of stringer is either cannings or paolo, but paolo looks to make more metres on average than what cannings does

the balance needs to be rectified with either robinson/wagon/ian hindy making way for hauraki, hauraki could make up for metres that morro used to make, but would probably never become the worker he was, robinson could make up for the defensive workload that morrison brought to the table while also maintaing his current rate in attack

we dont know how long ian is out for, so lets hope hauraki will show us that he should be in the 17 and make it a easy decision for hagan
