RLWC 2008 ? kiwis won it ?

WTF is my T shirt then ?
There is nothing whatsoever (apart from a sh*tty DVD) to acknowledge the fact that we have the best league team on the planet.

Same 2005 Tri Nations, Leitchy wrote his book and sfa else..

even a bumper sticker would do.....:sarcasm:

Oz, you're just trying to ge me started, aren't you?!

This is a real pet peeve of mine...if they're so **** at marketing which they obviously are, what they could do is just look over the ditch at the way it's done there. Then we'd get the T Shirts and collectibles worthy of the occasion.

I have the DVD and love it, I see the 'coming soon' Tournament highlights DVD on the NZRL website (Which was incidently released in Aussie on Dec 1st-I cancelled my preorder from over there seeing it was coming here-Should have just got it)...and that's it so far.

There's only so many weeks of 'brainstorming' as they put it, before the momentum will be lost and the 'emotion impulse' buying won't be there. Frustrates the hell out of me. It's not Rocket science-Spit some souvenirs out and plug 'em in time for xmas. You would have though that would be easy. As well as the DVD, the immediate things that came to mind were T shirts, polo shirts, Souvenir programme booklets of the final, tournament stat programmes (If the Aussies had the rights to those a simple Licence could be worked out for NZ release pretty easy). And if they really don't know what they're doing just follow the path of other codes. Even Americas Cup had crap for Africa(But you wouldn't want to go to that extreme, that's just dump bin special area).

The Parade ideas seem to have been quietly forgotten. Good on Lance for getting the Cup to Huntly and in an Xmas parade, and good on the Mad Butcher for putting on some specials through the MB Stores for books, Kiwi WC & All Golds Jerseys. I'm hoping Peter will put out a companion book for this W.C like the Year the Kiwis flew/The Year that was

Mate, can you elaborate on that? What's available, and at what cost? I've not heard of any of this.

Check out his website mate, is also an ad in the Sunday news for it

Butcher books are $10 in his stores, and he is knocking out the jerseys for $120 and i think a free poster as well

On that note of posters, is a free one in the Sunday news today that isn't bad

got his book today at the Massey shop, $10.

The Warriors were on the ball with the semis T shirt, wouldnt be surprised if there wasnt a 2008 Finals/GF winner ready to go as well.

There is a bloody huge market out there, someone knows how to screenprint....

The Warriors finals gear would have been part of the NRL line that was put out for every side i would guess

Walking out of the GF this year I was able to purchase Premiers T-Shirts 30mins after the game , wonder what happened to all the Storm versions of them

anything wrong with league can be traced back to world war 2 when it was banned in france and can be used to justify any mistake the current administrators make.

I think, in fairness to Ray and the board, their activities are pretty restricted at the
moment due to the ongoing SPARC review.

I now believe that the "recommendations" following this review will have very far
reaching effects right throughout our game in this country (for recommendations read
edicts!!).

Interesting times ahead.

I rang them this morning and the guy told me that the NZRL did not have the license to make merchandise relating to the W/Cup. The license was held by an outfit called Lenco (who are probably the same crowd who made the 95/97 warriors supporters jerseys) and there should be a T shirt released next week . He said to keep an eye on the "Champions of the World" website. http://www.champions.co.nz/Rugby_League/Rugby_League_World_Cup.html

There will be a limited edition signed framed Kiwi W/Cup champions jersey released in a couple of months and he said it would retail around $6-700.

So, the NZRL's hands are tied apparently, if it was a regular International series, they could put stuff out but because it was W/Cup the license to do that obviously went to the highest bidder.

Lenco are owned by ICS btw...

Sorry, I just don't buy that, at all. Do these guys have the Licence for parades as well?!
The NZRL just don't know how to promote a success, it's '05 over again. If someone else has the 'Licence' for the World Cup specifically, then use a loophole and churn out T shirts that simply say 'World Champion Kiwis.' It implies a lot but says nothing you can be sued for.
And 6-700 dollar Ltd edition framed pics?! For the working class majority fanbase? That's fine for serious collectors, but the key here is stuff you can make cheap, sell cheap, and get cash in the till fast and keep interest and momentum in the sport going!
John Dybvig; good on him. About time someone had the nads to say it in public...it's an utter ****ing disgrace. Where's the incentive to keep the likes of Marshall & co in the game, and wheres the push to inspire kids? Here's their chance...and they're just blowing it. IMHO it is not 'Licence Legalities' as they put it-It's Laziness...and why the Warriors hype and inspire the Kiwi fanbase more than the national team does.

Pull finger, NZRL!

Got the Sunday News poster yesterday from a kind workmate...and I'm gonna frame that myself, it's a nice pic/design and nice quality paper. Good on Sunday News for doing it-We've been critical of them at times but they are doing their jobs as sponsors of the Kiwis well.
And that's half the problem of the NZRL IMO- It's like they expect others to do their promotion for them...their Sponsors like Sunday News...The Warriors to spend $$$ on promotion and then just ride the coat tails...even the likes of the Super League mag with Robin Smith who puts so much effort into it with little thanks from quarters at times...and Peter Leitch with his Promos...
It does bug me that others do the work for the NZRL while at times it's as if they want to keep the League their own little club and secret.

Just on the parades issue, their hands are tied imo

Sure, they could bang one on, but I can imagine the uproar from all when only 5-6 of the players front for it, as they are nearly all on their well earned off season trips and are all over the world at this current time

As for the other stuff, money will be tight as always i presume, and the licence to chuck out apparel from the event would be fairly steep i would suggest. Would the interest be there for some sort of unofficial stuff, for some reason i have doubts about if that would be viable for them. Judging by all the crap today they would have more luck selling t-shirts about Carters Perpignan debut, that got about as much coverage as the kiwis WC got !!!

Yes, nice piece, but IMO I would rather see products for the masses rather than elite collectibles.
Even just Kiwi stuff promoted, not just W.C...the NZRL must have stocks of Kiwi gear, what was to stop an immediate sale following the WC win to celebrate- Older year jerseys for $99 (Like the Canty RL was doing earlier in the year, but now there's a good reason to promote them), T shirts, keyrings, caps...and so on.

But the point is like any retail store will tell you: You have to let people know there's a sale on before they can be interested in it, and you have to have it in the shop to sell it!

IMO Ray's a really nice guy, but the NZRL still needs someone there with business nouse to really promote the game (No, not chalmers!!!!) and capitalise on this opportunity
