Yeah but jeez he was good that night! Goes to show what he can do when he plays his right position!

At last! Finally someone else on the forum prepared to take the rose coloured glasses off. Neither of these guys have played out a season in any form of the game yet; be it first grade, reserve grade, toyota cup etc.

We pay these guys good money and they take up a spot in the squad that go to a player that will play more than half a season here and there. I don't blame the club for persisting to an extent because of the obvious potential, but lets face it, sooner or later something has to give. We can't have centres being run down by front rowers and a five eight who looked good in one match against Souths three years ago but done nothing since.

Unless they stay fit for an extended period of time (and even then I worry about the lack of pace due to knee injuries) should we continue to build for the future with these two.

I have actually said that this was a problem for some time. Don't write them off altogether though. There is hope but it really does need some remedial work IMO and even then, there can be not guarantees

Benji and SBW are the two examples that come to mind.
If the Stanley boys can get through this they may end up being very good.
However as has been pointed out, knees are a whole different thing to shoulder injuries.

Personally I reckon that it's long odds that either of the Stanley boys will complete an NRL season with 15 games or more played unless they consult with a sports rehab guru who can mitigate what appears to be genetic weaknesses. Damn shame and maybe it's just bad luck but some bodies aren't built for the ongoing rigours of first grade rugby league
Chase played a full season this year without injury. Half of it was spent gaining confidence in the Cutters but the fact stands.

There are no guarantees with anything but Kyle is worth gambling on. Regardless of what any of the forum experts believe, he is highly rated by many within the club on a number of levels, and it is not often the club produces halves worthy of such a rating. They aren't going to throw him away after a setback, particularly after fighting so hard to retain him during his last contract negotiation.

Same applies for Cam King, whom also has faced a number of injury problems. With some players you have to bet big to win big

Can't disagree with anything here Godzy and I wonder where either of the boys but Kyle in particular would be rated if they had been injury free from the getgo

The club is trying to nurture talent in key positions, I think that's a positive. I know it might seem frustrating they're not where we want them to be but put into perspective that they are still younger than players Cherry-Evans, JReynolds and AReynolds were when they debuted and then made a name for themselves...

I can imagine what people might say if Kyle started going well for the Bulldogs under Hasler and next if King started to establish himself at the Knights under Bennett, both I think were very real possibilities at one time...

I commend the sensible highlighting of the issue of the Stanley brothers. Nothing is good or bad as it seems. I have always thought they have been talked up too much, particularly Kyle. Both are 1st graders but not elite players.

I saw Kyle that night at Kogarah against Souths. Fein was very good at half. Kyle was slick and clever. He kicked extraordinarily well. He tackles well and can jag a try in 'traffic'. However, never seen him crack open the defense and sprint away etc.We need a a top class centre like Lyon. For the record don't knock Cooper too much, he is still quick.

No he didn't. He missed about a month of football at the beginning of the year. He suffered a concussion in the charity shield as well. Do some research before you come out with the facts mate.

Chase’s playing specialty has traditionally been in the centres, but a burdening injury toll - including a full knee reconstruction last year, a heavy concussion during the Charity Shield and now a shoulder problem - has limited the 22-year-old to the NSW Cup so far this year.

‘‘Chase is going all right ... hopefully he’ll be back playing soon,’’ Kyle said.

Yeah knees are pretty damn bad for footballers...

Benji and SBW are freakish talents as well...I wouldn't call Kyle Stanley a freakish talent. I think he could be a good first grader though.

Fair call, I'd forgotten about that (if I knew it at all). But just 3-4 weeks worth of injury time is a good result for any player, especially for Chase.

Cagey those initial comments on the Stanley boys consulting a sports guru regarding a genetic weakness had me conjuring up images of them off on some meditation / hypnosis retreat with incense burning away in the background. Lol.

Those boys are up for a make or break year.

Anyways I think the team looks competitive on paper. The key is how Hornby's replacement comes on. Last year showed me we badly need an organising half who's kicking and passing game can jag points. Our attack has stuttered for years now. It needs to turn the corner.

I also so think some of those young forwards need to come on this year. They looked far less potent once Weyman went down, with only Merrin really looking impressive on a consistent basis.

Yep. Stockwell, De Belin, Frizell, King. If these guys come on it will be a vastly different forward pack this year. Add Weyman and Harrison with Creagh playing tight and structurally, it's almost a new pack. Exciting times.

I was thinking more along the lines of the boys having a genetic predisposition to knee and shoulder injuries and of holistic rehabilitation. The loss of Jeremy Hickmans who was very special IMO may impact on the Dragons. You'd have to say that his rehab record was extraordinary. Given the output that he got from some of the Dragons formerly injury-prone players

agreed.

Honestly, being Hurstville juniors, I would love nothing more than to see both Stanley's excel in first grade. I think Kyle has a lovely sleight of hand and Chase can run a hole like no ones business. I just really hope they can put these injuries behind them because it is mighty frustrating as supporters...i guess that's rugby league.
