Make it a top 9 system.

Minor Premiers go straight to the Grand Final.

The other 8 teams battle it out to see who joins them in the big dance.

You can have an asinine Finals system, and still reward the Minor Premiers.

No....
You can't have more then 50% of teams in finals....

I like top 6. Give no 1 off and to a top 5 series. Or top 7..... One has first week off. 4,5,6,7 elimination.

Gotta rough em up. First 5 tackles Crushers. Next 5 Hip Drops. Next 5 Chicken Wings. Next 5 leg twists. Next 5 face rubs. Then every tackle there after hands all over the ball.
Get on it BA.
You're talking about the Storm aren't you? You forgot the wishbone, pulling on leg to really stretch the groin. Need 7 tackle set so Storm can practice all their grubby tactics.

I'm loving it. We aren't a chance so nothing to lose. Just go out and throw ball around and have fun. If comes off we may win. If it doesnt who cares. We are not a chance anyhows.

It's a similar mentality to the Tigers weekly games for last 8yrs I guess.

LOL

And after a month of not playing football and watching others from the sidelines they finally get to play again to only get smashed due to timing being all out and game fitness levels dropping. Yeah great idea.

Besides we all love the finals series. It has produced some of the best football ever played over the years. Why would you want to get rid of that? Just because another older sport does something doesn't mean it is better. They just have their tradition which is different to ours. We are a newer game and more arguably more exciting, therefore we like a more dynamic end to the season. Only makes sense really.

We have only one chance of winning this game and that is if we play direct and up the middle. It will all hinge on Mahoney knowing when to take his opportunities and scoot when appropriate or pass wisely to the right players coming through.

But that is where it will be one or lost. We need to work them over with short link passes in the middle third. But for it to work we need numbers coming through, NOT one out runners up the middle like we have been doing or they will be cannon fodder. We need all our players in motion so our passers have multiple options. That is the only way you can prise open a team as experienced and well drilled as the Storm are.

I can't state this enough, we need numbers in attack. Player always coming through and then our play makers have options and the defense has to make decisions. Then Moses and Brown can pick and chose the best runner or run themselves when the defense turn their shoulder or plant their feet. Also Moses in particular needs to take the space and run into the line before he passes.(Obviously), but hasn't been doing enough this season.

Then in defense we need to slow it down with all the slowing tactics we all know, like kicking to the sidelines and feigning injuries, engaging the ref and so forth to get them out of their rhythm in attack as much as possible.

That's it. Constantly work them over in the middle with numbers. Don't let them breathe in defense, just keep at them going forward up the middle and the cracks will come fairly quickly if we do it right. They are very vulnerable with short back on the inside type of passes. But numbers, numbers, numbers. Otherwise it doesn't work and it will be all over for us very quickly.

What we don't freakin want to see is to many one out settlers or block plays. If we play one out stuff, even if we adopt an offload strategy, it won't be enough, they have always beaten us by the end of the game doing that because it isn't enough and will eventually lead to crucial game turning errors. Against the better teams like the Storm if offloading is your only real tactic it puts so much pressure on the off loader and receivers and unless they all stick it isn't enough and they capitalise on your errors.

Oh and we must also fight in the ruck to minimise as much as possible their suffocating wrestling tactics and hopefully get six again rulings in our favour or at least minimise them from slowing us down in attack. If we can do this I reckon we win and win well.

But I don't think we will play like this, but instead we will do a lot of one out running and then try to spread the ball way to early and they will eat us up because of it. I expect to see Moses crabbing across the field at different stages looking for a runner or a hole with neither in sight and get tackled meekly or pass to a too late runner as usual. I expect D. Brown to try to break the line with his running game but not quite do it because of all the lame tactics that don't fatigue and so the defense is always fresh and ready for him. I expect our wingers to get monstered again coming out of our end because we haven't fatigued the defense in any real way. I expect to see very little running from Mahoney and very few players in motion on every play. These have been the tactics that we have deployed for the better part of the second half of the season.

Therefore I expect a massive loss yet again against a very well prepared Storm team. It's game over man!

This is why Arthur's goes on about effort. Support play is everything in attack. It makes the job of the ball carrier easier when trying to win the tackle and just creates more opportunities in general. Too often we have some big merkin looking to offload the ball and Mahoney is concentrating on Moses jawing off 20 metres away. We need to finish the current play before focusing on the next one.

But this isn't some obscure tactic worth a 500 word f**ken post, TheRam. It is rugby league 101.

There is zero chance they can execute your game plan. They need a coach for that.

That's why the only hope is to offload the f**k out of the ball and keep the storm defence scrambling.

Our only hope i tell ya.

Did you know a merkin did a study on the psychology of the Negativity Pessimism Schemas with some isolated Nuns from the 1930s. They all kept diaries and their writings were categorised as either optimistic or pessimistic. Fun fact: the nuns who were on the large optimistic lived 10 years longers than the pessimists.

No it isn't. BA has been happy on many occasions in the post game interviews with our effort when we were playing like crap and not supporting the ball runner in attack very well at all and just managing to win by a couple of points often against crappy low placed teams, because the "effort" was there. But what he is mostly focusing on is our ability to defend our way to victory. As good as it is and obviously necessary to have a sound defense, it isn't enough when you come up against the best sides.

It may be footy 101 one but only 4 or 5 teams do it regularly and well in the NRL. We just started to in the first 10 rounds of this years comp and then just STOPPED.

You need to be a very fit and well drilled team that has very demanding and quality play makers that drive this type of behaviour at training ALL the time. Do extra training sessions for hours on end practicing and rehearsing these moves in particular with your back rowers and centres. It is not off the cuff stuff. You need to make this your bread and butter style of play. Be able to pick weaknesses in the defensive line and work towards exploiting this and calling plays that you have perfected as second nature to capitalize on those weakness.

When was the last time we saw anything like that happening out there for Parra? But I'm sure you will see plenty of that come from Smith, Munster and Co tonight.

We aren't even on the same planet when it comes to real game management as the top teams at the moment.

You are probably right and hope we have a near perfect no errors game along the way.

Keep reading too much into post match press conferences. If that’s your only source for your allegations then I think your case is weak.

No my main source of evidence is the way we play and he hasn't addressed almost any of our short comings either in attack or defense. But it is an easy fix. ;)
