I think a lot of these good teams know that if they really up their intensity to begin the game we usually crumble pretty easily, we don't seem to have the effort on effort plays to keep up and usually are playing significant catch up after 20 minutes.
BA is going to have to pull something from his ass to get this team up for this game.
I don't reckon it's particularly us they've worked out. I think it's more that the six again rule makes it easier for one team to really dominate for that first ten to twenty, and doing that can really gain you a big advantage. Not just on the scoreboard, but come the end of the halves when merkins are getting tired, that they've worked out.
If you pressure early, repeat sets though six again are easier to get than a penalty, there's been little to no scrutiny of refs over them. If you can pull a couple in a row, you'll almost guaranteed pull the first penalty as defenders struggle to slow down the play, score once or twice in that period, and you've completely dominated possession for a good wack of time. For most teams on most days, that there's game over
And as we've seen sometimes there's no f**king rhyme or reason why one team's getting the rub of the green on those calls, it often just seems random. But counts can really lean heavily one way or the other.
