Sunshine State Dolphins or South East QLD Dolphins is fine
Those are okay, but it should be Brisbane because they'll be playing out of Suncorp and they want everyone in Brisbane supporting them. They should want to claim the location of Brisbane. SEQ is not a very well known area name. The Olympics will be in "Brisbane" not "SEQ".
The only argument against Brisbane Dolphins is that the Broncos already use "Brisbane" but too bad for them, they can change their name. There is no better way of muscling in than to steel the name.

Cowboys is a worse name than the titans, it's not a word that Australians use
I always thought Titans could refer to the skyscrapers along the beach.... anyway at least its better than Suns.

Could be a better logo for them, Q1, Soul towering above the beach instead of the greek warrior thing they have

I’d say the difference between a good and bad mascot is about 20years.

Broncos and Cowboys are obviously both very American names but I don’t really think about it other than it being brought up on here every now and then. Same with Raiders, a rip off but it works.

I hated the Titans brand (still kind of do) but even it has grown on me with time

Funniest thing about the Suns is that the AFL had a ready-made name in the Southport Sharks who were happy to become Gold Coast Sharks and they snubbed it because their Melbourne based focus group thought Suns was more appropriate. Ended up alienating a 50,000 strong membership base in a single move.

this has been discussed ad nauseum in the expansion forum. It needs to be a second Brisbane team or a team that represents a large area at least, not just a suburb. Are people across Brisbane going to want to support a Redcliffe team? maybe, maybe not.
Moreton Bay Dolphins, South QLD Dolphins, East Coast Dolphins could all work....
Doesn't seem to be a problem for the chip chasers.

Leagues club members don't equal football club fans.

Besides, I don't think it would have mattered what name you gave an AFL team on the GC, they were always going to struggle for a generation or two.

There's no doubting that branding is important, but broadly speaking I think it's influence is highly overstated on here, and a lot of people have a tendency to confuse brands they personally don't like for bad brands.

Miami Dolphins only came into being in the early 1960s. I think Redcliffe calling themselves Dolphins pre-dates Miami.

That aside, it is one thing that irks me about the NRL, using too many NFL names. Raiders, Steelers, don't forget those. I actually wish more sports and teams adopted ye olde names instead. NFL had a lot of weird ones like Triangles, Yellow Jackets, etc. AFL with names like Shinboners, Same Olds. RL names like Shoremen, etc

I long for weird ye olde names.

Oh, and the GC did want to use Dolphins not Titans but Redcliffe blocked them. And it paid off, they will have their own team in the NRL now

GC also tossed up stingers and pirates as names

The problem with Sharks is it’s a great name for a team, not so great for a city that makes its money on enticing tourists to its golden beaches.

Suns, well ain’t that precisely the weather we’re selling to those sad, cold wretches coming from the southern cities and beyond?

I think that name was a smart choice. It suited the Townsville basketball team too, but then so did Crocodiles - native, not a problem for most of the region and not clearly a foreign rip-off.

My suggestion for NQ Cowboys was “Taipans” - one of the deadliest snakes in the world and native to the region.

Alas, without any visible public consultation (at least not that I ever saw), they had already chosen Cowboys.

Being a League fan I never think about it any more. That’s except for the seven years I lived in Dallas TX and had to cringe as the first response to anything involving the NQ Rugby League team was…

”Oh,… they’ve just copied the [Dallas] Cowboys. Look they’ve even used the same colors!”
