Not with that foxtel deal they won’t.My prediction is that both Redcliffe and Brisbane (Ipswich) Jets will be announced as the 17th and 18th teams in the comp.
Question is, will Jets join in 2023 or 2024?

Technically they're based northwest of the CBD, albeit in the inner suburbs and not far from the television networks.it’s been shown broncos draw fans from all over the city, they aren’t a northern club.
Could otherwise have it in that little patch at the back of the collar?South Queensland Dolphins.
On the official logo (e.g not the player apparel one, which I predict will follow the current trend of just having the mascot and no text) they could have 'RDRLFC 1947' in finer print below the 'South Queensland Dolphins' text
A simple north-south division meeting in the middle is not natural for Brisbane. The region is long north/south. More naturally is North/City/South (which doesn’t preclude the possibility of two City teams)
I currently live in Petrie which is a solid hour north of Suncorp and a half hour west of Redcliffe. My local gov is Moreton Bay, which is the same as Redcliffe.
More games at Suncorp doesn’t make the NRL any more accessible to folks that live in this area. It’s still an hour away from home.
The same would be true for folks based in Ipswich-Logan.
Sure, it makes sense to take finals games to Suncorp, it’s the biggest and best quality stadium in the region. And maybe local clubs will always play a few blockbuster games at Suncorp during the year.
But I think the clubs, NRL, Qld Government and Lachlan will all expect that in the long term these new teams will develop stadiums in their own areas.
For the Dolphins, that doesn’t necessarily mean their existing ground. It could be a new boutique stadium at North Lakes close to the main North-South motorway between the City and Sunshine Coast.
Or a ground around the junction of the main north-south rail line and the branch to Redcliffe at Petrie Station.
Exactly where and in what time frame is ultimately down to how the Government (assuming they fund it) want fans getting to the new venue, road or rail.
I’m slap bang in the middle of this expansion so naturally my view is coloured. But this ain’t my first rodeo - I lived in Townsville during the Cowboys entry.
And again, much the same will be true for an Ipswich-Logan team.
NRL to officially expand to 17 teams, $50m profit posted
By Adrian Proszenko
The NRL will officially expand its competition to include a 17th team, although the clubs are calling for a bigger share of the spoils after the game announced a $50 million surplus.
The Redcliffe Dolphins are expected to beat the Firehawks and Jets to become the next franchise in 2023 after broadcasters felt the inclusion will add value to their product.
The clubs were told the cost of having an additional club would be $15 million per year, which would be offset by the $20 million per annum that Foxtel were prepared to pay with an extra Brisbane team.
That would allow the 16 existing teams to receive additional funds in the future, allaying fears the size of the revenue pie would be sliced up thinner between them.
The new club will be required to have a $10 million bank guarantee per annum over the next five years to ensure it can stand on its own feet. The 17th team will not get any additional funds over the existing ones in order to start up.
There will be 12 additional games per season as a result of the inclusion of an extra team, with every side to get two byes.
I think it's more to do with not affecting the talent pool, whilst giving a 2 week break across the board for all clubs for these byes, yes it makes the comp uneven and messy, but it also gives a another push regarding the broadcasters a new game and a new team next time they come back to the table, a few years from nowDidn't know where to post this but I guess it can go here.
Love that we are expanding but I really do think we should have tried to get 2 extra teams.
Not sure I like the idea of a team having a BYE each week and there not being any increase in actual games each week - not sure how that helps with the TV deals?
Anyway that aside I do look forward to this extra team in the comp!
Agree 2 teams could stretch talent and make for some awful standard of footy.I think it's more to do with not affecting the talent pool, whilst giving a 2 week break across the board for all clubs for these byes, yes it makes the comp uneven and messy, but it also gives a another push regarding the broadcasters a new game and a new team next time they come back to the table, a few years from now

It won't be WA, it has to be an area, that an existing team/s are ready to be promoted, perth can barely field a jim beam cup team, (prior to pandemic that is)That's a good point 18th could be bargaining chip. Get broadcasters (& west Aussie government) to pay
Given the NRL's stance it will be someone with a pokie club, that seems to be their main criteria for inclusion. It won't be WA, it has to be an area, that an existing team/s are ready to be promoted, perth can barely field a jim beam cup team, (prior to pandemic that is)
It will be an area that is a league heartland, it always has been this way, (Melbourne was an anomaly) and Sa and Wa was not set up to win the way storm was....
Even though i see NZ2 being the focus, its more likely going to be PNG or QLD5 ..... or both Cairns/PNG Pride.... representing a nation of league crazy fans, cairns with the lion mascot, and soon to have a new stadium, direct rival to Townsvilles based cowboys, PNG, digicup pathways... it will be an easy adage as 18th club... and you know how the NRL and PVL love easy
Im fairly sure 18th is 2 years after the dolphins start up, they are pushing hard the idea that QLD need more and more representation, more players filtering thru to 1st grade, and pushing hard for the Maroons to be quality..Agree 2 teams could stretch talent and make for some awful standard of footy.
Hope 18 is on the agenda before the decade is over though.
Dont forget the borders need to be open too... bwahahahaGiven the NRL's stance it will be someone with a pokie club, that seems to be their main criteria for inclusion.
If I had Twiggys money Id go to the original plan B and put a team in Sl just for giggles.Dont forget the borders need to be open too... bwahahaha
Best chance WA have to getting there own licence is to take on a struggling existing franchise
They've had millions extra last 2 years to help them through covid! Clubs will always plead poor, its in RL DNA it seems. Could you imagine the uproar if we went to an AFL variable style grant system and spent $85mill a year on proper expansion like they do? lol the clubs would go into meltdown aided and abetted by the Sydney media and all the old boys on Tv who still think its a 70's NSWRL competition!NRL expansion on as clubs sold on 17 teams
A plan to introduce a 17th NRL team from 2023 has been outlined to the chiefs of the existing 16 clubs in a meeting that has all but sealed the expansion deal.www.google.com
I read on Foxsports, there were two clubs that were pissed off that there wasn't an increase given back to the clubs, greedy fkers, seriously 13m isn't enough to field a pro team, some 30 years ago clubs didn't get grants, geez i wanna find out who complained, and in what context... if its because covid has ruined that club financially for the moment, then fair enough, but if its the broncos and titans again.... ffs please
They dont need to change them at all. Red, grey and white doesnt clash with anyone and is their brand and that seems to be what the NRL wants, an old Brisbane brand rather than a new or rebranded entity. Hopefully they go with this style rather than their traditionally red with white V which is a bit too St''s like. The logo could also do with an update.I wonder what Redcliffe will be changing their colours to, or will they just incorporate a chunk of gold & a hint of black aka SF49’ers.
