Why are some obstructions ruled defensive choice, and others not. There is still too much subjectiveness. If it is supposed to be black and white then all should be the same regardless. Nobody really understands what outside shoulder, etc are.

And why does the video ref look at some incidents from every angle possible many times, but others once or twice and rule without looking at every angle.
I think they have have a preconceived opinion and then try and look for evidence to ‘prove’ themselves right.

I'm over refs being a few metres away from a try then going to the video ref because their too gutless to make a decision. Someone needs to tell them nobody has a better view of the incident than them make a decision FFS and move on.

I just wish they'd take 30 mins to read the rules.
Every week we get a ruling that is inconsistent with the rules as they are written.

'It was wrong': Annesley concedes Manly non-call a mistake

NRL head of football Graham Annesley conceded match officials botched a decision which should have given Manly a last-gasp chance to send their clash against St George Illawarra into golden point on Saturday night.

A day after Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler fumed over the non-call when Tim Lafai appeared to escort Manly winger Reuben Garrick off the ball with just seconds remaining in their loss to the Dragons, Annesley admitted the referees had erred.

Manly captain Daly Cherry-Evans remonstrated with whistleblowers David Munro and Liam Kennedy long after the full-time siren.

A penalty would have given him a chance to send the game into golden point with a kick from close to the sideline.

The controversy overshadowed St George Illawarra's gripping 12-10 win thanks to a late Mikaele Ravalawa try, a sour ending to a match which threatened to reach the heights of the Storm-Roosters top-of-the-table blockbuster earlier in the round.

Annesley and referees boss Bernard Sutton agreed on Sunday with Hasler's sentiment and will wait until early in the week to determine if any action should be taken against the officials who erred.

Regardless of whose responsibility on the field it was to pick it up, the fact is they all missed it and it was wrong

"We both agree it should have been a penalty," Annesley said. "Regardless of whose responsibility on the field it was to pick it up, the fact is they all missed it and it was wrong. We'll review the consequences of that during the week.

"There was definitely an escort and there was definitely interference so it should have been a penalty. The timing and circumstances of the game made it a critical decision."

Annesley is expected to expand on the issue at his weekly briefing on Tuesday.

The hard part is defining what constitutes a change of direction. On TFS, you had Immortal Rule Dunce Joey saying he hasn't changed his line but I saw very clearly his feet were planted and then he moved his frame to obstruct the chaser. As far as I am concerned, he's changed his line.

It would be interesting to see what advice they are getting as it seems to be the interpretation at issue.

I’m probably bias but there have been a few dodgy calls against the Warriors this arvo. Making Matt Cecchin performance last week look fair

One thing ive noticed warching the games love is that the enforcement of the shotclock seems totally arbitary.

both broncos and storm restarted kickoffs when it was already zero. Yet refs are happy to give scrum penalties.

Dunno who is in charge of blowing the buzzer but they are not doing it right. Changes the game

Um, the kick off one is supposed to happen when it hits zero. It's actually a 30 second time out, not a shot clock.

With the scrum shot clock, the scrum needs to be packed within the time limit, not actually fed.

The problem with the kick off countdown clock is that grounds I've been to use the same buzzer as the scrum and drop out shot clock, and it gives the impression that teams are committing a breach.

I've rarely seen such a one-sided display as Roosters Raiders. Only reffing the Raiders in the first half and then squaring up the count in the 2nd half when the game was gone.

It's like the refs changed the interpretations for flopping and holding down in the ruck but only told Easts.

For a team who is so blatantly and obviously cheating the cap to the point that we have a far superior roster to anyone else, we sure do need the help of the refs to win a lot.

I counted at least three dodgy calls in that, the standouts were the disallowed try where the ball never went forward and Graham getting away with collecting Tevaga high and forcing him off for an HIA.
