Individuals stood especially tall

The big news for Parramatta fans was that centre Ben Smith got through the 80 minutes without mishap at North Sydney Oval on Saturday. The bigger news for more parochial fans was that Wentworthville beat leaders North Sydney 34-20 in the NSW Cup.
This was only the second defeat of the season for Norths and here is the dimension of the win that now has Wenty only two points behind the Bears.
Norths fielded a team that was chock-full of NRL players, such as Dean Widders, Jamon Lowe, Yileen Gordon, Nigel Vagana and Jeremy Smith.
Wenty had only demoted Eels benchman Weller Hauraki and Smith, having his second run back after missing the season because of knee surgery, to match them for NRL experience. On paper it shouldn't have been a match but as the cliche says, games aren't played on paper.
There is another cliche: a champion team will always beat a team of champions. Wenty certainly played as a team but several individuals stood especially tall.
Prop Jeremy Latimore drove Wenty forward from the front and fullback Tim Mortimer was a constant danger from the back.
On the wing Jonathan Wright was at his mercurial best, finishing off quick-hands movements to score two tries in the corner from positions he was not entitled to score from.
And halfback James Maloney was at his sharpshooting best, kicking seven from seven, including several from the sideline.
Wenty are now aiming at the minor premiership after aiming up early on Saturday.
Two beavering tries to hooker Mark Mitchell and one to classy centre James Grehan, on the end of a classy backline surge, had Wenty ahead 20-10 at the break.
Norths looked a chance when they scored straight after the resumption but Wright's two conjurer's efforts had Wenty always comfortably in front.
Meanwhile, Wenty's last remaining hope of figuring in the Jim Beam Cup finals when Cabramatta thrashed them 42-10.

I was thinking after last week they were too cocky and were going to play a player short just prove they are a contender!;)

Hi All,
I've posted this in the Parra forum, but thought I'd put it in here too. The weekend's top-of-the-table clash with Norths is now available to watch online at www.leaguetv.com.au ....very polished performance from the Magpies....well worth a look...cheers.
