Were the Broncos dudded?

Boyd "knock-on":

At what point does he promote it forward?
To me it looks to go slightly forward as it comes up off the turf, can understand why it wasn't called though because it's very slight.

LOL are you kidding? He doesn't catch the ball cleanly. It hits his hand then the ground without any control. Knock on clear as day.

I agree with your assessment that there was a knock on, but calling it as clear as day is a teeny weeny exaggeration

In real time speed its almost impossible to see

Clearly pulls the ball back towards himself and bounces backwards, that's not a knock on and the refs got it right just like every other decision that night.

He had zero control of that ball at any point. He did not catch it and then drag it back across the turf. The ball hit his hand (his hand on the side of the ball with zero control), then it hits the ground. That's a knock on there BEFORE he drags it backwards. As soon as that ball hits the turf the play is dead. Knock on.

That was my working theory of the situation. Difficult to tell without another angle but things were happening so quickly, I don't blame the referees.

A player getting his arm free doesn't negate the legality of a multi-person strip.

Also a better performance doesn't make you bullet proof. Although I'm sure in some referees eyes, it does.

Thaiday trying to offload is free game, that is how it should be interpreted and that is how it happened. Basic really. We can safely say not dudded unless Thaiday having an ordinary game counts as dudded.

Then the referees have never or will never be consistent with that interpretation and more often than not have ruled with the side who had the ball dislodged.

Thaiday having an 'ordinary game' is a logical fallacy in this context.

Broncos dud themselves by defending a 4 point lead for majority of the second half instead of pressuring the Cows on there last tackles eg running the ball, line-drop outs, etc. Defending a small lead against a potent dynamic attack that the Cows possess they were going to score eventually with enough possession.

I can't think of any examples off hand where a player trying to offload has been given a penalty in that instance. Poor attempt at offload and poor attempt on Tamou on the Cowboys try had a larger impact on the game compared to any refereeing influence real or otherwise. Thaiday pretty much admitted both as errors on his part.

I'm sure you keep a running tally of all those instances.

Again, will be interesting to see if the referees are consistent with it. I doubt they are and I'm sure there will be plenty of instances where it's ruled a strip.

Could have been a lot worse for the Broncos, it could have been them and not the Roosters that were the best team in '15

What's that word Hunt is mouthing as he drops the ball, could it be similar to the one from Thurston as he missed the goal or from Thurston as Linnett fails to catch . . . if any of the three were refereeing what decisions would they have made

I reckon the Boyd one goes forward from his left hand before his right hand swats it back.
That was after watching it on slow mo, so I can cop the refs thinking/calling it as a knock back.
