Well this article answers the questions raised about the new seats at the end of the ground.

Cox Architecture is delighted to acknowledge the success of AAMI Park Stadium, Melbourne in receiving the ?World?s Most Iconic and Culturally Significant Stadium? Award at the Stadium World Congress 2012 in Doha. Cox Architecture and Arup were the architects and engineers for the development of this ground breaking stadium that has become a symbol of Melbourne?s sporting prowess.

?We are honoured to have designed this world breaking stadium that not only was recognised in Victoria as the recipient of the Victorian Architecture Medal in 2011 but has now been recognised internationally as an exemplar stadium? stated Patrick Ness, Design Director of Cox Architecture.

AAMI Park completed in 2010 is the latest in the sporting icons of Melbourne. The 31,000 seat venue has become a landmark for all sporting fans in Melbourne and has become home to the Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Heart and the Melbourne Victory. The unique design has become the latest world stadium icon showing how these buildings can be culturally significant places to the communities they serve.

Cox Architecture is one of Australia?s leading Sports Architects and are currently designing Adelaide Oval redevelopment, Perth Rectangular Stadium redevelopment, renovation of the Southern Stand at the MCG, Manuka Oval in Canberra and the new Northern Stand at the SCG.

Yeh that and the fact the existing seating was green so I guess it made sense. I see the union nufties are trying to get the main stand named after some player that used to play for them but cleared off to another club.

Ohhh right, that guy who played 116 games for his country. Definitely not worthy.

He played that many because the Wannabes have zero depth.

He's not a one-club player or born/bred in WA and he left the Reds for the Force because of $$$.

It's a bit silly to name a stand after him, it should be reserved for someone who did more for WA Union.

It shouldn't be named after anyone this early in the stadiums/clubs that use it history. I am sure glory fans can name some worthy candidates as well.

Thanks for putting out the obvious.

I dunno, the colours are too much like an Indigenous jersey or even more so a possible PNG test jersey. I like the GAZF sash design and colours he did for the Perth Reds idea.

I think that it could quite easily be used for the Pirates, it's a unique design. The sash design is iconic throughout my State's sporting history also.

The rusty/dowdy colour scheme is reminiscent of a pirate's coat; though nowadays there is no reason at all why they should need to use red in general, not being named the Reds. For that matter, I think there's real chance we could use this rust (bauxite/haematite) colour with other mineral colours which aren't usually seen in the NRL, such as a goldish-sliver (nickel) or a dark-silver (cobalt)

I played around with using black as a primary colour a few weeks back with metallic gold and small amounts of red. Will have it up over xmas. As for the Pirates logo, I think that the secondary with the full skull is a better logo. If they used that with a toned-down wordmark, I'd be a happy guy. This is what I had in mind:
