You keep comparing second tier sports to the nrl. You might not have noticed but nrl is a tier one sport. If it can’t generate a fanbase then the game has some serious problems.

but sure if the pirates end up being really sht, if they alienate the rl fans of perth and if the nrl becomes a total basket case like super rugby then the pirates will no doubt struggle. Let’s hope that dosent happen eh?

you also keep asking what happens if they, or weirdly the succesful perth clubs, become a losing club, guess what the same as every club in the world, the bandwaggoners drop off and the loyal fans stay, then when the club gets good agIn the band waggoners come back. It literally happens to every club in every sport everywhere in the world lol.

Rugby is bigger in Perth than league

Western Reds team & pirates bid blameless in failures out west?!
game was booming here when western reds where around. News ltd and ARL cutting them nearly killed the game in wa, so there’s your first major bad error by the games governing body.

Then for 15 years the ARL basically ignored wa but at least we had an independent WARL that managed to get the game off its knees. Get registrations up, enter wa in Jim beam cup, enter sg ball and put a bid together in 2012.

Then along came the arlc, forced the WARL to hand over the keys to them and basically have done nothing since,in fact worse, have closed down sg ball, even going as far as to appoint a chairman who publicly stated he thought trying to grow the game in wa, Vic, sa and tassie was a waste of time.

So yeh I blame the people responsible for running rugby league and who have a mandate to grow the game across australia as being the problem, given they own and run the game here.

Western reds was poor business model. I see similarities with ur idea of future club in Perth, relying on game day to prop up team. Pirates were just repeat of same mistakes, but with bad branding. Easy to blame others..

Talking to people on the Board at the time, the original business plan was fine. The 11th hr decision by the ARL to bring in an extra u20’s comp in 1995 was hugely expensive for reds, coupled with how bad the waca was. Then SL came along and blew costs for all clubs through the roof.

thankfully none of those have any relevance to today.

RL in Perth has some serious problems.

Western Force averaged 27,102 in their debut season.

Western Reds averaged 13,390 in their debut season.

Perth won't be parachuted to the top by News Ltd.

Are the millionaires behind the Perth bid willing to press their case by funding a NSW Cup team for a decade?

There were cheerleaders on here saying a Perth-based club is guaranteed to generate massive crowds because Western Australians are parochial and loyal. Perth's strong economy was brought up.

If that were true then the Glory and Force wouldn't be struggling.

There's nothing magical about Perth and Western Australians.

They keep bringing up irrelevant periods of time or other sports to justify a biased opinion. Glory force and reds have zero relevance to the success or failure of a perth nrl team in 2030. So long as it’s not a total basket case it has every chance of being a huge success and seeing rugby league grow significantly here.

It's not irrelevant to discuss the level of support for Perth's other professional sporting franchises. Posters in favour of Perth have erroneously used the success of the Wildcats and Scorchers to argue that the Pirates will be one of the biggest teams in the country. Now they're trying to shut down any discussion on the subject because their lies have been exposed.

A Perth-based team isn't going to add many new fans into the game. @mongoose erroneously argued it only needs to attract 30k TV viewers in Perth to supplement 100k from Brisbane. What the idiot cannot get through his brain cell is the average rating for Brisbane is 98k. That means there are games drawing fewer than 98k viewers in Brisbane. A Perth-based team might only generate 70k viewers (or less) in Brisbane because Queenslanders don't care too much for Western Australia. Games against teams from Sydney and Melbourne appeal to Queenslanders because there's a rivalry between the states. Perth is unseen and never mentioned by the Brisbane media.
