Why would Australians pay money to watch the Kangaroos thrash England silly for the 50th year in a row?

England is a minnow country in the world of rugby league.
and Kiwis, you know the team that juts thrashed the kangaroos? lol
Whens the last time Australia got a crowd of 50k plus against the kiwis? In fact Australia v NZ draws bigger crowds in Uk than in Australia. Shameful.

Australians don't care about Test matches that are played at the end of the year. They'll watch it on TV, but once the NRL GF is done and dusted people lose interest in the game.

Eh? Govt has said thats what they are giving them. Also spent $17mill on Western Force HQ and $50..8mill on soccer HQ. We also have a womens sports grants scheme to help womens teams play in a national comps (socccer got $320k least year plus $2.4mill for facilities and grassroots funds, $9.3mill all up last year) Money ARLC could be tapping into if it got off its arse and did its job. WA govt backs its clubs.

..so glory have received $0!?

There's no prestige in Test RL matches. It's not like Origin or The Ashes in cricket.
and you call England irrelevant lol. Kangaroos are a laughing stock, rarely play, no one cares about them and they get thrashed when they do play. Very sad and somewhat shameful for the game. All that success they should be the size of the all-blacks brand.

When was the last time England/Great Britain "thrashed" the Kangaroos?

No club can afford to fund a club in either of the second tier comps without funding from pokies, an nrl club or govt. Sadly the second division comps do not generate any revenue so the $2mill a year or so it costs to run a club has to come from elsewhere, theres no viability at all in second tier comp clubs.

Im living in the hope one day Vlandys fcks off and we get people in who want to invest and grow the game at grassroots nationally.
Or you just move house into a state that allows pokies or plays RL, im not sure if you remember that PVL has been championing expansion, the previous bunch of knobs you value hadn't, and gold coast really wasn't exactly a winner for expansion, it could've just been another brisbane2, in any case there really hasn't been a true expansion since the storm, and it would be great to see where the next 3 end up, and if PVL leaves office, we might not get to see it, another figurehead like grant or Greenberg and expansion is dead for the time being

So why are you talking about Perth entering clubs in the NSW Cup and lower grades?

Id be happy if they brought WC Pirates into SG Ball, Jersey fleg and NSW cup anytime in the next decade!

Expansion of the game isnt just about NRL level. It is at the moment as the ARLC seem hell bent on abdicating their grassroots responsibilities to professional sports clubs. Whilst there was no action at nrl level there was significant increase in grass roots funding under the last leadership mob, up $33.3mill from 2016-2019 by time. Under his and Abdos watch that has been whittled back and its impact is being felt across the country at grassroots.

Grass roots funding peaked in Grant/Greenburg era of 2019 @ $88.7mill
Vlandys/Abdo era
2020 covid impacted
2021 $53.3mill (-$35.4mill)
2022 $70.3mill (-$18.7mill)

$54mill stripped out of grassroots so far under Vlandys/Abdo. Be interesting to see what 2023 figure is.

I agree with you re other muppets and their lack of action on actually expanding the NRL, we heard lots of talk all the way from 2012 so to finally get a new club, even if it was more consolidation of RL heartland than actual expansion, was good to see. Maybe our next illustrious leaders can actually expand the grassroots AND the NRL. Now that would be something!
