Looks like Gallop has suggested Sage get in touch with the WARL.

Also interesting that the media (both Fairfax and News Ltd.) are reporting that Brisbane II are the clear cut favourites - perhaps a staggered introduction of teams - Brisbane II in 2014/2015 then Perth in 2015/2016 - will be how this plays out.
It'd be more likely to be 2 in 2015/16, hopefully with another 2 anointed for, say, 2018.
Example - WA & "a Brisbaneteam' in, CQ and Wellington put on notice to prepare for kickoff 2018. Just examples.

Unfortunately I see the Bears best chance is as a consolation entry if a current team falls over, which I believe is unlikely.

thats great news
they are long overdue for a test

they should have received one during the 2008 RLWC IMO.

they should hold a test - promote the hell out of it - then bring back the REDS!!

I would think Perth's chances of joining are increased if Channel 10 get the TV rights, just because it would allow Channel 10 to really use the NRL in WA with a local team for people to support, and help grow the game overall. While Channel 9 doesn't own WIN, and I doubt could care less either way if Perth or Central Coast got the other spot. Seems Brisbane 2 is a shoe-in at this point. Bears probably should start courting the Sharks.

NRL Bid Distractions

The media surrounding the bid by another Perth group again took over the airwaves and press lineage this week.
WA Rugby League was well represented by CEO John Sackson as he outlined where the WARL stand in regard to the future NRL bid for Western Australia.
We are, and have been committed for over two years to putting in a full bid from the WARL, representing our whole of game approach and supporting rugby league from the grass roots up.
Through meetings with the NRL over this period, they are well aware of the status of our planning and we will be ready when they announce that expansion is on the agenda.
In the meantime we assure all passionate supporters of the game, that we are well placed to ensure that they will have the best bid and management of the game through WA Rugby League

New league body gives WA hope

The WA Rugby League will meet the game's new national governing body as they plan for the future of the code in WA.
The decision on whether Perth will again have a National Rugby League side rests solely with the long-awaited Australian Rugby League Commission that took control earlier this month.
The commission must map out a plan for the code's immediate and long-term future. Heading their agenda is a new $1 billion broadcasting rights deal and competition expansion.
That decision is expected in mid-year but WARL chief executive John Sackson said his organisation would meet the eight-member commission in the next couple of months.
"The commission has only been in the job a week, although they have been working behind the scenes for some time, and at the appropriate time we will have a meeting," Sackson said.

I have heard middle of March though obviously they have met with Gallop and NRL management regularly over the last few years so hopefully the ARLC has been well briefed by them on Perth's developments and bid potential.

In further good news Ch9 has agreed to show the Sunday games at 1pm into Perth. Better late than never I guess!

Thats a start but fri night is the big one they need to commit to. Most league fans here have Fox so 9 showing the game at 1pm has improved availability by an hour. However,on fri night sometimes the fox replay isnt ill around 11pm for the first game, sometimes not unitl sat morning.
But as I said a good start to have it at least on free to air at a decent time.
