Another piece of the jigsaw falls into place with news that NIB stadium will move to WA Govt ownership, paving the way for major upgrades. First upgrade will be a new main stand on the East side of the ground. This will take capacity over 25k seats and add much needed corproate facilities. $82.5million has been set aside for this first phase of work. A further $260million has been discussed to complete a total redevelopment of the ground in the future. Phase one is due to be completed for early 2013 (just in time!)

“This decision will also assist the West Australian Rugby League in their efforts to establish a WA franchise in the expanded National Rugby League competition,” Mr Waldron said.

SG Ball Update:
The Perth trial for the Cash Converters WA Reds was held for 60 players on the 16th of September with the trials in Sydney being attended by 40.
A base Perth squad of 25 players has been selected and already in training.
Seven players have been identified from the Sydney trial and are in the process of relocating to Perth.
It is planned to add three to five players to the squad prior to Christmas to fill any necessary positions.

I think halfway through next year we'll hear the WA Reds and the CC Bears will be joining us in 2013.

Listening to Gallop in the NRL.com fans forum interview it seems pretty much nailed on that Reds and Bears will be in if they have get enough money. He really talked up the Perth opportunities which was great to hear.

Yep. Great news for both areas and bids. I think there is still plenty of work to do until next year but I'm satisfied with what's being accomplished by both bids. Great work guys!

I'm shocked that for once it seems the NRL are making the right strategic decision. It looks like they're going for a battleground region that would help with the next deal. While also finally giving the Central Coast a team, the last major population base in NSW that doesn't have a team. And bringing back a foundation club that was treated incredibly badly a decade ago (if things went the way they should have the Bears would have just played their 10th year in Gosford).

Let us hope mid 2011 the NRL announces the CC Bears and WA Reds will enter the NRL in 2013. This will give both clubs time to prepare recruitment and enter teams in the NSW Cup with promising younger players in 2012. Also, the NRL will announce we want to have another QLD and NZ based teams in 2017.

The SG Ball side is in full pre season at the moment, with the squad working well. Head Coach Andrew Korn is happy with the squad and their progress.
Having the full season to work with the preparation is far better than for the 2010 season.
Currently there are around 30 in the squad including 4 players from the east coast and another two arriving in 2 weeks.
The season will commence around mid February and run through to April / May. We are expecting five home games and a better result than our inaugural season.

In assisting the long term development the Reds Academy is now about to commence (next Wednesday) for the promising 14 to 16 year olds. With 25 kids in the squad, it will be a good nursery for the future of our state.
Training will run every Wednesday and second Saturday.
