And let's not forget that Western Australia are by far the most successful state in the affiliated states championships. WA have won 10 of the 14 championships to date. They are stronger than NT which is regarded equal in RL and AFL popularity.

ARLC comes out tomorrow and says there'll be no expansion for 5 years. What now?

Carry on with the road we have been travelling for 5 years Clarency. Growing the game and getting it back as a strong sport in WA. The beauty of our bid being owned by the warl is their remit is to grow the game in WA at all levels so that is what they will continue to do. Hopefully even if there is no expansion the commision will work with the warl for a 5 year plan for continued growth and fund it accordingly.

1. Continue elite academy and SG ballside
2. Guarantee 3 nrl games a year
3. Guarantee 2 test matches in next 5 years
4. Increased funding for more development officers
5. Funding to get the Coles program offered to every school in WA
6. Explore possibility of a nsw cup team in next 3-4 years
7. Guaranteed continued Covg by ch9 at decent times
8. Improved funding to warl clubs to attract higher qualified coaches and promote themselves better
9. Guarantee pirates entry to nrl in whatever year they decide to expand

That would be a min I'd hope to see if the commision is serious about growing the game in WA.

Our 2020 plan:

Having an NRL side in Perth will speed up the growth of the game, help us engage the WA Govt and build on the great work the WARL has done over recent years.

As an example when the Farce joined S15 the number of Union jnrs doubled within 3 years and the WA Govt built them a $10mill training and HQ. We need an NRL team to take the game to the next level here.

Apparently the AFL has plans for a team in NZ. It looks like the AFL is on the march and the NRL is standing still.

The Pirates need to be admitted as soon as possible. And the Jagera Jets. Wellington 5 years later.

The AFL can't afford to expand in the next 5 years. They probably can't afford to expand to another frontier market in the next 15 years. It is seriously going to take them that long to relieve the burden of supporting the Gold Coast and GWS (not to mention Port Adelaide). That's the difference between our position and theirs. We still have the option of expanding whenever we like, we don't have to rush it. They've made their play and now they're stuck with supporting it for years to come.

Where is the AFL looking at putting a team? Wellington might be the only logical place however it is Union and League town and already has 2 rugby teams (Lions and Hurricanes) an A-League team. Auckland has 3 Provincial Union teams a strong League following and a Super 15 team. I can't see Christchurch getting an AFL team.

A NZ AFL franchise would be like GWS Mk II

Looking at the so called AFL expansion ideas.

I believe it is a smokescreen to convey the image that the code is being agressive and its sport is popular anywhere.

It is clearly not popular anywhere.

In fact I regard it not much more than a glorified training run compared to rugby league! And not enough is made of this fact!

The AFL say a lot of things.

Most of it is bullshit.

Pretty much two AFL teams in every major capital city and State Govts paying them to play regular games in the smaller capital cities. That's what I call expanding out from a one state suburban comp!

Work has commenced on the southern stand.

The Department of Sport and Recreation provide regular updates of the construction including photos.

Where are the NRL games for next season. Going to be held? Is it the same ground as the Warriors/Manly game?

Depends on scheduling. nib is supposed to be competed around April/May time. I doubt we will get a trial game due to high price of hiring subi. We normally get the Sth's game in March so they may play that at Subi then the other two later in the season when nib is finished.
