i think what i learnt tonight no matter how much each year we say we are gonna start the season well we dont, its impossible.

all i can say though is relying on hayne too much will be our downfall, if he had a 7 on his back itd be much easier to rely on him as he would touch the ball more often. In saying that we really do need a number 7

sorry rob jeffson , you are still gonna win the dally m medal, when your shifted to prop

Attitude was poor, plain and simple!

Why the f*ck can't we rise to an occassion? Oscar passes away and we are "playing for him" yet we dish up that sh*t?????????

I am with most people and am not too upset about the loss as it is only round 3 but i would like to see us turn up when we should and imo tonight we should have turned up and gave the game a real shake for little Oscar, if he really was someone the players spent time with and important to the club, why could the players not play for his memory????????

Anthony Mitchell needs to be on the bench next time one of our 3 halves is out imo, he could easily fill Kingston's spot, he is a very clever hooker, something we are currently missing.......

I've noticed that generally speaking our opposition's completion rate is usually much higher than ours. Tigers are a bit of a special case as they move the ball a lot and will naturally drop a few on occasions (at least it's while having a go and not on the first tackle hit up).

I think the reason here is defence. While we scramble well (which doesn't really work against the likes of Marshall who is harder to catch than a hare), we're not getting up in defence. No pressure ... it's not hard for them to hang onto the pill. The flip side, however, is that our opponents are on top of us and forcing errors ... at least when we aren't manufacturing them out of thin air.

What do you guys think of putting hayne at 5/8 again.

I think this is a great idea for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, It would allow Inu into the team. Either he or Burt could play fullback with the other on the wing.

Secondly, Hayne's positional play and cover at fullback is ordinary - surely somebody else would be better.

Thirdly, ordinarily I'd say no way to moving Hayne from fullback - it would be a waste of his kick-returns, but nobody's kicking the ball to him anyway.

Fourth, Hayne's one of the game's best hitters in defence. Moving him up into the line would bring that back into his game.

And moving to five-eighth wouldn't have to change his role in attack. Whoever played fullback (Burt? he kicks well and has good positional play) could play the five-eighth role (i.e. stay on one side of the field) with Hayne continuing to roam and follow the play and get involved whenever he wanted.

Perfect example of a lack of organisation in the halves was glaringly obvious to all when we're 7 down with 10 minutes to go, 4th tackle play 30 metres or so out from the Tigers line, time for Hayne, Mateo, Tahu - any one of the gamebreakers to at least have the chance to get a shot on the defence and spark something - and instead Fui takes it up for a pissweak 5 metre hit-up.

The ONLY thing needing a change in the team is the ATTITUDE!!

Coach DA needs to do what ever it takes to get them up.

Could this be the 'ghost of hagan' walking the dark and shadowy recesses of Parra stadium getting into the minds of our players thinking, 'we aren't far away from where we want to be'?

I think the time has come for a full exorcism of the players - the ghost of hagan walks.........

So much of the talk about our team seems to relate to our attack, while I think our attack needs fine tuning we are still scoring tries, making breaks etc. Its our inability to control other team's momentum which is killing us particularly in the first half.
Our defencive line needs to get more aggresive as a unit, we are too often on the back foot in the play the ball.

It then means we start sets on the back foot as well. Our defence needs to become more effective. In saying that I think we scramble very well, the tigers scored two tries which were inch perfect grubbers, only the two marshall tries were a bit poor. But in general our goal line defence is not too bad.

But teams seem to have been able in all three games to rumble up field very easily against us, particularly in the first half. We need to toughen up in defence. I do wonder how fit some of our team are, but I also perhaps think the team is not looking to peak in the first three rounds. I think our two losses, the tigers and dragons were very good, and we were hardly thrashed in either encounter.

So thats defence, now in attack.
While I think our go forward could improve, there are some simple things that may help. For a team with multiple forwards who can offload, we don't seem to have enough support or option runners in close. Both Cayless and Mateo had good offloading situations go begging tonight. I think Morts need to do some of this, and Tahu and Reddy need to play a bit closer early in tackle counts.

And Hayne, he is amazing, but that doesn't mean he has some flaws in his game. The reason slater held the aussie fullback position is quite simply, he does the more traditional fullback things better. I don't want to bag Jarryd too much, but his freakish ability does at times mask these flaws. Hayne needs to improve his positional play and urgency in defence, and his support play in attack. In no way am I even suggesting Hayne is anything but our most important player. But when Burt was fullback we had a lot more support play from our fullback.

Mateo, is he a little unfit?? He was great late in the game coming off the bench, but has not been that effective early on.

I thought Matt Keating was a bit better tonight, but once again if there were more support runners in close, his role would become easier.

So for mine:
1. Defence line speed and aggression needs to improve.
2. More work on the tighter runners and support play, then push it wider.

3. Don't worry too much its only round 3 and we are hardly getting flogged. Gee I wish we had not lost shackleton though, he had some of the mongrel we needed.

Nothing much in there to disagree with. Notice that in one set we didn't have a marker for two consecutive tackles. You know you're losing the ruck when that happens. :(

I didn't so much learn anything, I just had something confirmed - up until now, I think Poore is a dud. Starting to wonder if he is related to Bobby Lindner......

It's the nucleus of the same team that came 2nd last year. So no wholesale changes for me.

I'm all for Morts and KK as 6 & 7 however.

Just need to work on our own line speed and avoid getting dominated in he ruck. For some reason we are peeling off quickly and our opposition are slowing us down.

We'll come good.
