What is your most unpopular opinion about the NRL?

My most unpopular opinion is that Super League is a better competition than the NRL. It has been recently proven by Wigan thumping Cronulla and Warrington thumping Brisbane. It should be noted that Warrington is not this year a top Super League club -- it is running 9th at this moment. So this means that the 9th ranked club in Super League is better than the 3rd ranked club in the NRL. That's pretty conclusive evidence that Super League is a higher standard than the NRL. But nobody wants to face the inconvenient facts.

- State of Origin should be played over 3 consecutive Wednesdays.
- State of Origin is incredibly overhyped, mostly by the media/Channel 9. Dial it back, it doesn't need much bigging up. It's self evidently important already.
- NRL should focus on fan engagement/growing crowds by designing the fixture to maximise crowds (more day games/simultaneous kick-offs) even if the TV stations kick up a stink.

You mean the competition that's had 4 winners over the same time that the NRL has had 12 different winners?

- JJ Giltinan Shield should go to the premiers of the NSW Cup/the major NSWRL competition
- The history/records/statistics of St George Illawarra (1999-now) and St George (1921-1998) should be officially combined

- Billy Slater is lucky his brain fart in the 2008 World Cup final has been forgotten. Could have gone down in infamy like Paul Carige
- Petero Civoneceva is the greatest front rower of the last 30 years
- Scrums are fine and should stay
- Players trying to break their contracts because they got dropped to reserve grade are sooks who need a boot up the ass

Nah you would need more than one match a year to say which competition was better. If they did the NRL's best 17 v Super League's best 17 in a best of three series or something in Australia, I think the NRL side would dominate them.

The onus should be on the decoy runner to not interfere with the play. Interference in those situations should be a black and white rule. Was the defender impeded at all by a player in an offside position if so penalty. Doesnt matter if the defender wouldnt have made the tackle or deliberately run into the decoy. Rugby league has an offside rule. We shouldnt be encouraging players into standing in an offside position.

yeah I agree with this. It's infuriating hearing idiots like andrew johns who think its fine for a decoy runner to just to run into a defender. It doesn't matter if the defender is on the other side of the field to where the ball is, you can't make contact with them just cause you're a decoy runner.

I disagree Albert.

The top 4-6 of SL would likely be middle of the pack NRL - and on a good day knock off the top teams, as we saw in the WCS.
The bottom 4 of SL are approaching NSW Cup quality, evidence: They sometimes get beat by div 2 Championship sides (which is a good for P&R and the Challenge Cup to function).
No NRL side would ever lose to a NSW Cup side, imo.

Overall SL sits between Australian first and second grade, overlapping at the top and bottom with both.

Intercept tries are overrated and don't require much skill or team work. Not sure why fans and commentators think the intercept try is such a spectacular play.

I think a large chunk of of the national media have an agenda against RL and it's hurting the game at grassroots level, not so much at the top level though. In fact I would say that it would be a worse sign for the NRL if the off field behavior of its players weren't such a big deal.

I like how you listed one of the few times ESL teams have beaten NRL teams.

Too many NSW clubs, and it's not even that controversial if you have your head/s screwed on correctly

Typical that it was posted and liked by a Broncos fan. If you don't like our game why don't you and your club piss off and play in the BRL. What makes you think that your club is more entitled to be in the comp than the others just because your club's owner already tried once to ruin our game.

This would be true if you were just saying SL is more entertaining. It is by a long shot. It is also a more courageously run competition. But it isn't better in the sense that you mean.
