I saw the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
I didn't think it was as bad as so many people are saying. I wouldn't o so far as to call it a good movie, but it was ok.
I was a massive fan of the old cartoon and movie series when I was growing up. This did nothing to ruin that. The look of the turtles didn't bother me at all. I thought they were pretty cool looking actually. I don't know what people expect 6-foot mutant ninja turtles to look like.
I think it suffered mostly from a crappy villain (as a lot of movies seem to these days). While I didn't mind the turtles' look, the Shredder just had too much crap on his suit. He didn't rely on his expert ninja training, but his 'cool' knives and stuff.
Character development was limited. There was honestly more in the original movie (mostly Leo and Raph). Here they are basically just introduced as a certain type (the leader, the joker, the nerd, the arsehole) and you get nothing else from them. If they could have just cut down some of these action scenes and focused on their relationships with each other, with Splinter and with April then I'm sure a much better movie could have come from it.
Also, Megan Fox isn't that good an actress. She isn't even that good-looking anymore so that can't make up for it. I don't know what she has done with her face but it doesn't look natural.
I would also like to ask Jonathan Liebsman (or any other action director) to please stop swinging the bloody camera around during action scenes. I'm not even talking about so-called 'shaky cam', but when the camera just keeps moving around and around making hard to keep track of what you are watching. The scenes when they are sliding through the sewer tunnels and down the snowy mountain were so hard to watch because of this.
Lastly...people need to get off Michael Bay's back about this movie. He didn't direct it. He didn't write it. He was a producer, and how much input he actually had into this is probably minimal (same as Spielberg with the Transformer movies). If you want someone to blame for it being crap...the writer and director are the obvious ones. Bay is just an easy target.
