Watched Lincoln the other day. Terrific movie. Daniel Day Lewis... easy to see why he got the Academy Award for best actor and became the first three-peat winner of that award. Lincoln has been someone I've hero worshipped for a long time, anyone who stands up for oppression in whatever format they do it is something worth believing in. Particularly when its brought forth from their own sense of ethics and values. Its hard though to explain that to people today, to the point where my wife never really got it. So I took her to Lincoln thinking I'd get nothing but 'do you like him because of his funky old man's beard', but she walked out of it understanding the difficulties faced with ending the Civil War and getting the 13th amendment through. I was surprised by the end of it how much she taken in and understood, and how it affected her sense of what was right. That to me says DDL's performance was extremely compelling (as I thought it was), as was the directing and story-line of the movie itself.

I think we've just had a terrific period of movies with Argo, Django Unchained, the cinematography of Life of Pi, and Lincoln amongst others.

Cloud Atlas

Thought it blended it's six stories together really well. 3 hour film but due to it's anthology style nature and how it links it's stories together it rarely feels like it's just dragging along.

Was fun trying to spot which actor was who and despite my best efforts I didn't manage to catch them all (check out the credit sequence at the end, my mind was blown on some).

Some might find the themes and philosophies a little alienating but if you go into this just wanting to watch six fun stories that are interconnected in some fashion I'm sure you'll have a fun time.

For those who have seen it, what was your favourite story? Personally, I'd have to go with Cavendish's story. Fun light-hearted fair that lead you one way but took you completely somewhere else. Lovely resolution too.

I really enjoyed that one too. Surprisingly good film.

Just watched (rewatched, in my case) The Dictator with my girlfriend. It's more miss than hit, but the political satire is great when it's the focus.

5.5/10

"Start with the little one".... Jesus f**king Christ what did I just read

Just read the wiki for it too. Who would want to make a movie like that. That's just f**ked. Who ever came up with the story line for that movie should be boiled in oil and fed to pigs. f**king hideous. That movie had to be marketed to paedophiles, rapists, necrophiliacs and psychopaths.

Finally got around to watching Skyfall. I enjoyed it but it had a different feel from a typical bond movie.

Watched Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, f**king great film and I recommend it to anyone who isn't turned off purely by the fact it's anime.

Thought broken city was ok. Not great but ok

Idk I almost fell asleep a couple of times Crowe and wahlberg were good in their roles but you could tell they were the 'big time' actors if you get what I mean compared to the others in the film
