Lone Survivor. Good movie but I never knew Afghanistan looked like the mountains of Colorado/New Mexico. Made it a tad unrealistic IMO even though it was based on a true story.

Afghanistan is a very mountainous region. What differs between the 2?

The pine trees? I know Afghanistan is mountainous, but I thought the terrain was mostly rocky and barren, especially at altitude. Just didn't look all that realistic to me.

Watched Smokin Aces on Foxtel yesterday. Have seen it a few times but quite enjoyed it. Didn't realise Chris Pine was in it. Played one of those hillbilly characters. Was quite funny. Did not recognise him.

Pretty good cast too! Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, Chris Pine, Alicia Keys, Common, Peter Berg, Tommy Flanagan, Jason Bateman, Matthew Fox and Joel Edgerton.

Ive never been there but I know there is a species of pine called the "Afghan Pine" so it stands to reason they would originate from Afghanistan

Some of my mates in the ADF who have been there said they were surprised just how forested the country was. They were expecting the "moonscape" or desert that they encountered in Iraq

I thought Lone Survivor was quite good.

Nice to see an American movie portray the good side of Afghans.

Caught Lone Survivor over the weekend too... Also thought it was decent, any red blooded bloke would love the guns scenes etc.

Thought it was a tad over Hollywood-enized in parts but then the ending brings it back to reality again.

7/10

Thor 2: 6.5/10

I didn't love it. It had its moments and Tom Hiddlestone stole the show, but beyond that it wasn't as good as I'd expected or hoped.

Carrie (Remake): 5/10

I just couldn't get into it.

Dumb & dumber

Haven't seen it in years. Holds up well. I miss goofy Jim Carey.

Hopefully Dumb & dumber to (sequel being made) can live up to the same standard.

The Killing Fields

9/10 A fantastic portrayal of the Khmer Rouge and Cambodian Genocide.
Haing S Ngor won an Oscar for his performance despite never having acted before. Must be real difficult that acting trade to be able to do that.

Considering he actually lived in Cambodia during that whole massacre he probably had a lot of experience to draw on.
Acting isn't all that easy...otherwise why are there so many bad actors?

I thought pretty much the same.
I really enjoyed the first Thor and so was expecting this one to be much better.
The villain in it is pretty lacklustre which really doesn't help.
