Straw Dogs (1971) 6/10 - For all it's supposed controversy, it's quite a tame and annoyingly ambiguous thriller that turns into a bit of a shoot-em-up rather than going anywhere profound. The female protagonist was particularly annoying, despite a lot of commentary criticizing the actions of Dustin Hoffman's character (who did a fine job with the acting).

The Gift.

Loved it. Edgerton and Bateman were excellent, and the tension in the film was subtle and palpable.

I thought it was a brilliant film.

Benicio del Toro is so underrated. His portrayal of Pablo Escobar in Paradise Lost was mesmerizing. The man never overacts.....so understated and brilliant.

I saw The Founder last week. Michael Keaton turns in yet another good performance. It is an interesting film in how you see him become involved with, and then take over McDonalds and how he grows it. I'd give it a 7.5/10 as it held my attention the whole way through.

Green Room - a really cool and unique movie. Also, Patrick Stewart is just a legend so any chance to see him act is always a pleasure. Especially when he plays a Neo Nazi drug lord!

Room - another utterly unique and great movie. Brie Larson was amazing, but the kid was extraordinary - perhaps the best performance from such a young child actor I've ever seen.

Suicide Squad. 2/10 As bad as they say, don't bother.

Deer Hunter. 3/10 Interesting 80 minute story with very good acting stretched out like a tortured prisoner on the rack to a three hour movie that felt like 8. Much like like the war it is about, pointless and needlessly drawn out. The idea that a major character plays a game that is pure luck for the time that the other character goes back home and comes back could be one of the biggest stretches in cinematic history.

that this rates above Platoon but only 6 years older is beyond me.

Nocturnal Animals - 8/10, get past the bizarre opening credits and there's an excellent psychological thriller with outstanding acting.

Starred Up.
7/10
Pommy prison movie ..very violent but with a human touch story behind it .

It was written by a volunteer Therapist who spent time in the prison system working with violent crims.

As one of the main characters is a volunteer therapist,I suspect it has a fair element of truth & realism to the story.

The Happening- I must be losing my marbles but this was hilariously entertaining from Shyamalan. 7/10

Sully- so painfully dull, couldn't get through it all
