The hundred foot journey, 9/10 - just struck a chord with me, loved it.
Gone Girl, 6/10 - Affleck just doesn't cut it for me, average film
The Maze Runner, 7/10 - decent film with an awesome setting

Mad max fury road - one massive car chase and lots of explosions. Better than I expected and pretty entertaining 7/10

Fantastic 4.

This one is going to be very divisive.
I can see a lot of people out there hating this movie. It has a long build up, focusing on character and story, which will put off a lot of 'fans'. And for a movie that is on the back foot before it even gets shown in a cinema, it will not withstand the backlash.

I however really enjoyed it. I have never been a fan of the comics, or the 2 previous movies. I went into this with a completely open mind. What I got was a pretty cool sci-fi film with some horror elements. This is not like any other superhero film. The characters don't even gain their powers until about an hour into the movie, and when they do they don't want them (except for one of the group). The reaction of Ben Grimm to what is happening to him is very well done. The guy is horrified and scared. Same with Richards. They handled the first 2 acts excellently.

There are some problems with the final act though.
It does seem rushed through, especially since they spent so much time setting up the rest of the movie. Dr Doom is a truly horrifying villain when he first appears and he seems like an actual threat to the heroes, but he is only on screen for about 15-20 minutes at the end and he becomes your basic 'world destroyer'. The final fight is over before it really gets going. Even still, I thought he was better than most of the Marvel movie villains (but that isn't saying much).

Even with those problems, I still really enjoyed it. It sets up a world I would like to watch again, however I am afraid that might never happen (going by reviews and internet talk - seriously there are so many people hoping for this to fail).

And really....who gives a shit that Johnny Storm is black.

EDIT: Having thought about it a bit more, that 3rd act really does bring it down considerably. I'm revising my score and taking another point off.

6 out of 10.

I do, I think it's stupid mainly because he is supposed to be Sue Storm's sister.
There is nothing racist about that.

Did they explain that in the movie?

Yep.
They are still brother and sister. Sue was adopted into Johnny's family.
They don't make a big deal out of it. There's just one line in there where Reed asks Sue if she was adopted and she says "Yes".

Oh, wait - are you taking about the Gene Lebell incident?

Yeah...that was pretty bad.

But then, Lebell was a completely legitimate badass - I'm pretty sure he could choke anyone out!

LeBell is an awesome Bad ass! Big fan of the guy, and he also trains Rousey to essentially be a bad ass as well.

Big Fan.

Ant Man

Loved it. Loved it loved it loved it. Rudd and Douglas were perfect as Lang and Pym. Perfect blend of humor and action. Pena stole every scene he was in. I was skeptical when they announced the movie, gained hope when Edgar wright was attached, lost hope when he left, and was always a bit worried in the back of my mind that this would be the movie to burst Marvels bubble. But it wasn't. Great way to end Phase 2, and lead in to Civil War.

That's a bit half-arsed. If you're going to do something dramatic like take a central character and change his/her colour, might as well use it to make a point.

I don't mind changing more minor characters like Kingpin or Nick Fury for example, but the Johnny Storm switch seems pointless and distracting.

Interestingly reviews are saying that MB Jordan's performance is one of the few good things in the movie.

I don't see it as being a drastic change.
Johnny Storm's skin colour has nothing to do with his character.

Rhonda Rousey is apparently starring in a movie about herself.
I wouldn't go near that if you paid me. She is a terrible actress.

The missus dragged me along to see Trainwreck.

Didn't like it, and find that actress really unfunny.
