Thanks for the advice Suity. I'm sure Nolan is very thorough about his role - he has runs on the board and I'd expect nothing less.

But the issue and this thread is about the head coach, and his ability to coach the first grade squad to some improvement and results. Is there a reason why Nolan/Nolan's role and the Academy concept can't simply continue their progress under a different head coach? Maybe just bring in a first grade coach that is up to the job in Kearney's place, and we'll have the best of both worlds.

Makes sense to me.

I think that at this point even if we win on Friday, which I hope we will, it looks like Kearney is on thin ice. Which begs the question of when will he be sacked? How much longer will the club tolerate his decision-making? Notwithstanding all of that, there is the possibility that Kearney might resign. Given how badly his Eels tenure is going he would be foolish not to be sounding out other options even if it means going cap in hand to another club here or overseas as an assistant. My guess is that if the team keeps losing that Kearney has another three weeks left before the axe falls and the club decides that its cheaper to pay him out than to keep paying him for a job that he's appears to be doing very badly. Put simply, I don't think Kearney will be here in June.

when he is sacked or resign wont be decided by us and as suffering fans imo we shouldnt worry about it, just worry about supporting our great club and hoping for some wins.

Theres no point asking this question after every loss, negativity is abit too rife in here atm just cheer up and relax little.

Like i said, if it happens, it happens. Building a great club takes time and we have only just started imo, the club will decide soon enough whether Kearney is the right man for the job.

Kearney will be close to the sack when Mr Spagnolo comes out and says...

"The Board has every confidence in Stephen, he will fulfil his contract. We are right behind him!"

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/spo...ave-consequences/story-e6frg7mf-1225930275122

Spagnolo concluded the report by applauding the signing of Kearney.

"We are excited at having secured Stephen's services," Spagnolo writes.

"The structure, discipline and enthusiasm he presented to the board about how he will run the football club, from the juniors right through to the first-grade team, was really uplifting.

"He gave us confidence that our football team will be a force to be reckoned with and we believe this is something you will be happy to hear.

"The feedback already received from both the coaching staff and players about Stephen joining us is one of immense enthusiasm and excitement.

"This did not come as a surprise to us as Stephen is held in a very high regard by Wayne Bennett."

Thinking about this further if Kearney gets the arse this year, Jason Taylor (I would love to say Anderson but there is more chance of me coaching the Eels) would be the only person I would appoint as he has some knowledge of our systems, mentality, players et al. Getting anyone else would waste too much time. However if JT is successful and gets us competitive and dare say into the 8, REWARD him with a contract for 2013. Don't do a Fitzy and employ someone like Michael Hagan FFS!!

He's on Foxsports 2 right now circa 1991. He could play back then.

I think if we lose convincingly our next two games against the Dogs and the Raiders that Kearney will be punted during the bye.

This. But our goal shouldnt be to 'win the comp', it should be to be highly competitve (top 4) for a couple of years in a row, 2013 (doubt it) ,2014,2015,2016, being up the top will eventually pay off and we will win the premership.

This isnt NRL2, you cant out the settings on easy and buy who you want and win a comp. it takes time, effort, years of work etc...

take the last 12 years of premership winning sides for example...
2000- Broncos - made finals every year up until 2008 i think so no wonder they got there

2001 - Knights had a highly competitve run between 1997-2001, accumulating with victory in both 97 and 01. Andrews johns enough said.

2002- Roosters started a 3 years power run in 02 under new coach ricky stuart, winning it in 02, losing the GF in 03 and 04. Roosters players had finals experience and a GF experience already though participating the in the 2000 GF and the 2001 finals series.

2003- Panthers come out of nowhere to win it. had the team performing at the right time etc, everything came together.

2004 - The bulldogs had the right side to win it for a couple of years, 2002 was striped from them and 2003 hey finished 3rd. years of hard work.

2005- Tigers come from nowhere to win it, benji marshall plus prince and young side that worked well together.

2006- Broncos finished 3rd in both 04 and 05 put it accumilated in GF victory in 06, ironically against a young storm side. years of hard work from the broncos.

2007- Storm win it. accumilation of years of work from bellemy and co. id say 3-4 years of hard work.

2008- Manly win it after making the finals since 2005. years of hard work under hasler.

2009- Storm win it...

2010- Dragons win it, competitve since bennent arrived. years of hard work.

2011. Manly win it - more so a lack of competition in GF/finals tbh, storm should have won this. regardless manly didnt just come from nowhere.

It takes years of hardwork to get competitve, years of hardwork being competitve to win a comp. Ladies and gentlemen, the hardwork began in 2011/2012 so we are just starting out. im sure if you investigated this closer youd realise some of these teams were to an extend shithouse before being dominant...

You`ve got a point, but not one of those sides had a rookie coach - except Easts with Stewart, but he had Phil Gould mentoring him. Look at those coaches, will you? Malcolm Reilly, Des Hasler, Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy, Tim Sheens, Steve Folkes. Comparing any of them to Steven Kearney is just laughable. And I`ll hazard a guess and say that none of those sides had, at any stage of their build-up, a losing run like we have had last year and so far this year. Face it - Kearney has lost the confidence of the players. It`s perfectly obvious. And it doesn`t matter what any of us thinks about it, the losing run will continue and Kearney will get the boot. Kearney is as big a myth as Daniel Mortimer was.

Kearney's lost the confidence of many of the fans too but so long as the players haven't lost Kearney's confidence in them I'm not too worried just yet.

I don't honestly know why you blokes f**k around with these idiot coaches. Accept that he was a bad hire, blame Osborne, move on. Kearney is a product of nothing else but the PR machine the works overtime in melbourne polishing the lot of them up.

What has he done to deserve one of the biggest assignments in australian sport? He was an assitant coach to a successful cheating melbourne side. He beat australia as NZ coach when australia were picking the dumbest sides i can ever recall and when bennett was holding his hand. You are a major club, one would even say you are the biggest club in sydney, why the f**k would you hire someone to learn on the job? You hire a snr coach with experience, end of story you DO NOT take risks on rookie coaches, let the likes of cronulla and canberra do that, and if they are any good you poach them.

Its not like you are short of a quid. The club has plenty of money doesn't it, so why does your executive accept rubbish like 5 year plans? There is no such thing in sport, in particular the NRL. You get MAX 2 years as a coach to do your thing. Personally, i believe you should see results instantly and a steady improvement with a few hiccups along the way is fine....treading water is not, the club has to show signs of improvement. Are the jnrs improving? Is first grade improving, are the payers happy are they enjoying their footy under him? Do you as supporters enjoy watching the side play? I have my doubts over all of those issues. plans are fine, but when you see that it isnt working given real world criteria you have to question and you need to get good answers.

Take a look at where you blokes were in comparison to the sharks when kearney arrived, now compare the difference. Its glaring is it not? Clearly it isnt working, and RL clubs dont give licence to fools to keep working on plans that are not working. Kearney has to go, and this time for f**k sake hire a professional that has a proven track record go ALL OUT and get someone to change your club culture, not an apprentice, not a bloke like DA playing tapes at half time of GF's, get a bloke that has a clue.

Another thing that worries me is that parra seem to take good players and turn them into shit in an amazingly short amount of time. Poore, has had some injuries fair enough but he was on of the top front rowers in the comp when you bought him, he would have a hard time holding down a job at mcdonalds atm. Shane Shackleton, was a really good up and coming player that everyone was excited about...again sure he had a terrible injury, but surely he should have been able to work his way back by now? Chris Sandow is another, in the first 3-4 rounds he was the only bloke scoring points for you then for some reason only known to the coach he unloads on the bloke after the newcastle game, because for some reason only known to kearney he thought parra deserved to win that abomination of a game, so he totally dumps on his halfback for not winning him the game....what is that shit? Yea he is fat...he was fat last year too, he plays like that. Hindmarsh has a gut too, he always has, do you send him to wenty because he didnt fkn chip chase and win the game for you? Now sandow doesnt trust the coach, now he doesnt like the coach and now he is wondering why he moved. great way to ruin a bloke in three weeks.
