this
old Krusty the clown PR red there forgets ( or chooses to ignore ) the NRL's revenue increased by the same % in the same period .. without... having 2 money sucking vacuum cleaners added to their comp

% might have been similar but $ increase was significantly different. In respective Tv deal periods up to 2019
AFL increased by $323mill
NRL increased by $225mill

Yep expansion sure did hurt them lol.

Considering they ( derpball ) spent all of their increase on the 2 mong clubs they introduced & so really aren't any better off & the NRL spent theirs on all facets of the game

Your lame example is exposed as just that .. lame

Bless you think they're spending that $100mill a year growth difference on two clubs a year? derpy derp derp.
Basically they have expanded their national footprint into enemy territory and by 2019 had still come out $40mill a year ahead of the NRL!

The good thing is it shows if we get expansion right and grow the games footprint there is still lots more money to be made.

The revenue gap in 2013 was $199mill in AFL's favour, by 2019 it was $266mill. Expansion works lol

You're a special kind of idiot aren't you ..
they definitely are spending any increase on the 4 non traditional clubs , the kitty kat wions are still gobbling it down & the swines continue to barely make ends meet each year , the 100 million increase over the NRL...
same % increase mind you
Essential to prop up their failing code outside their heartland . The lesson is STILL there for the NRL

do we need teams in WA , SA .. more in Vic ?

nope
not in the slightest 😎

You’re definitely right there. Get them whilst they are young

Again it depends. Looking at Union in Australia, I wouldn’t think many would make it. Korobite (spelling) and maybe a couple of other backs

If you are wanting the highest conversion rate, it would be their wingers and fullbacks, followed by their centres. Somebody like the Kiwi fullback Bueden Barrett would definitely make it - he’s a freak. Blokes like Tana Umanga or Dan Carter definitely would have made it in the past as well
League only values wingers at 500k whilst union pays 1 million plus for their good wingers

making the transition from wing in union to league would be a lot easier though

Afl lost around 40 million whilst the nrl made that much in profit

plus the arlc increased funding to clubs by 50 million whilst the afl cut funding to clubs

it will take them years to pay off all the loans they took out during covid

Can you read? Their expansion has been a factor in them earning $264million A YEAR more than the NRL (2019). That more than pays for the $95mill a year their 4 expansion clubs cost them! But yeh why expand when you can keep falling further behind AFL and not maximise your revenue growth. Sounds like a Gallop plan lol.

You can grow your product without expanding into non traditional markets & the NRL have proved this clearly.

Yes but the revenue growth you can achieve will always be less.

As long as you are not stupid with your expansion - not expanding too much too quickly or spending too much - then you could expand to whatever market you see fit

Offiah did ok.
Thereused to be lots of good backs in the 90's switch from Union, are they no good now or they can earn more in Union so not switching?

That’s the thing if we’re being honest afl has been really stupid with the giants and suns.

And they don’t seem to have an exit strategy or a way to stem the bleeding

Thats why NRL has the potential to use expansion to finally overtake AFL both in national footprint and revenue/budget outcome. It still has potential to expand and grow the pie for a lot less investment. Now it just needs the strategy and the balls to do it. Righting the Brisbane2 gap was the first step. Perth next then a few years NZ2 and Adelaide and the future looks bright. After that the game might be in a position to really look at PNG and possibly Brisbane3. A 22 team tri-country two conference comp in 20-30 years time once the game has the development pathways and funds available would be sweet. Id add in a European conference and rebrand everything under a global brand eventually as well for a3 conference international competition with end of season play offs around the world. You can but dream big!

It’s funny how when you get your own club you go from talking up afl to saying league is bigger.
