I noticed it quite a lot when I was on the Gold Coast recently, advertising and news had contant references to Queenslanders. When Victoria was hit with massive bushfires a couple of years ago people were talking about Australian spirit and Australian mateship, etc. During the Queensland floods, all we heard out of Queensland was how tough Queenslanders were and how Queenslanders always helped their mates (ignoring the fact many people from the rest of the country helped in so many ways). Anna Bligh was one of the worst offenders.

That was disgraceful, but fully expected. I'm sure all the interstate volunteers enjoyed hearing that.

Every time I see the NRMA name on the Broncos jersey I giggle. A proud and true Queensland company...

That second ad is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. Sometimes I wonder if they're taking the piss, or whether some dickheads truly do believe Queensland is somehow superior (in some completely indefinable way) to the rest of the country. Newsflash: it isn't.

Exactly! Poor effort from whoever wrote the copy for NRMA, as anybody from south of the Tweed or west of the Isa hearing this ad could be forgiven for thinking that if they don't hold a Qld licence they're pretty much f**ked!

Travel to WA and geographically it feels like a different country. Travel to Qld, spend some time watching the TV, listening to the radio and reading their newspaper and you could be forgiven for thinking you should have brought your passport!

Knights Premiership> NSW series win FTR....

Anyone south of the Tweed would be wondering what the f**k the NRMA is doing in Queensland...

That voice wobbling speech she gave about how we breed them tough up here and how when we get knocked down we get back up again - like somehow resilience was a uniquely Queensland characteristic - made me want to climb through the TV and throttle her.

Some of that sort of overly patriotic attitude is, to be absolutely fair, a reaction to the age old superiority complex that is foisted on us from down south. An element in Sydney has always thought of and treated Brisbane and it's residents as backward hicks in a country town. That reaction from an element of the media and the politicians and some of the more easily lead is unfortunate, but I would say it's not widespread. Most of us ignore the parochial crap some twits go on with. Particularly the politicians.

I mean, I bit of the old external enemy building team cohesion is a good thing, as long as it doesn't get taken too far.

If Suncorp held 150,000 peeps they'd still sell it out every Origin.

If you say so Bobby. Because I'm sure you know, after having done extensive modelling and socio-economic studies. I'm sure you wouldn't just be talking out your bum.

Of course, don't let the fact that they don't always sell out Suncorp Stadium get in the way of your well researched opinions.

I think Jas is refering to all the "Qlder this" and "Qlder that" that permeates through advertising and such. One example is the NRMA ad where Webke says that NRMA had given him a car to "share with a whole bunch of Qlders"

The Channel 9 news promos are full of the same too. I cant recall this occuring down south

There are a couple of Queensland focussed ads, but to say it's "permeated" through all of the advertising and media is all a bit of a beatup. All companies have different versions of their ads for different markets within Australia.

Would Mel Downs (HOT!) walk down the streets of Ipswich or Woodridge at night and say hello to a complete stranger?.........

QBE on the Swans jersey.......meh.
You forgot Gasnier in 2010, 2 tackles after Morris was clearly in... ;-)
I forgot to mention the earliest GF try I can remember is the famous John Brass 40m jog from 75! ;-)

The whole Parramatta team (or so it seemed) piling into the last tackle of the game.
The single most ballsy act in RL history. Andrew Farrar feeds Steve O'Brien 2m out for a try in the corner, and seven Eels bury the merkin in the SCG turf. Origin NEVER had anything like that!

FTR the last tackle was Price and Moseley on Mark Bugden a shade short of the try line. All a shade better than seeing Michael Blake covered in blood for the entire GF a few years before!

If Suncorp held 150,000 peeps they'd still sell it out every Origin.
Well then they can f*cking build a 150k seater then!

Australia>Queensland> {distance} Titans>Cowboys>Broncos>the rest
Spent all your childhood undergoing brain surgery huh champ?

SoO program should include all age groups to senior residents' inter-state games and City-Country should include Qld teams as well in a 4 way meet.
City v Country should include Queenslanders huh? I guess Origin should include Poms then too? Stupid f*king dope!

Yes, they were awesome! Funny seeing Mick Moseley pumped up and sprinting out onto the SCG, moments after Brett Kenny wanders out like he's taking the dog for a walk!

What would it be like today? He's hairy, he's scary, he's the third man in, Saaaammm Thhaaaaaiidayyyyyyy

Love the individual player introductions.

Really? I'd say more cringeworthy than anything.

But i hold origin and club at the same level although origin has alot more memorable moments than club footy.

To name a few...

- Big Arty running out that first game
- 95 series
- game 3 2006

The best of all is seeing all the nswankers crying and whinging like f**king babies and claiming that origin isn't important to them anymore after getting raped for the last 6 years. :D

Different kettle of fish.

Origin is a constant & every three months of the year it's generally the most intense feeling as a fan. Personally, I'm friends and family with a lot of New South Welshmen who are just as passionate about their footy as I am and over the years Origin has always been that window of time where all manners are checked at the door & you just let it all hang out.

It's about taking pride in who you are and what you stand for as a person. I've always felt this connection to the Maroons and what they represent, the team that no matter what the odds are will show up and give it their all. I was raised on series like '95 & '01 & still see this competition as a source for inspiration.

When it comes to club football I always feel indebted to Origin because it's what brought us to the table. It's sort of ironic too, what brought us to the table is also one of our biggest standing blocks when it's come to success yet I've never questioned the series existence for a second & always get defensive when others do.

The Broncos don't have the same history as the Maroons. We came into competition with a star studded BRL line-up & were flogging heavyweights from our very first game. When we've won competitions, I've always felt relief more than anything else & just been proud of the achievement. Partly because I've never been through the heart break but largely because you're just celebrating the fact your team's made it (like '06, I was jovial about the prelim) that it just feels like a bit extra when you actually win the GF.

On the other hand, nothing was stopping me from enjoying the results like '06 (I still remember post-game speeches & the commentary for Locky's try) & '11. I had never anticipated a game as much as Game 3 '11. I dreamt of the game constantly, whether it was wins, losses or even somehow missing the game ala The Simpsons because I knew how big that result was in the context of one of my favourite players career. There's no denying, had we lost, a lot of people would have shat on Lockyer's career & the 5 game streak.

As for the most passionate Origin people, I find anyone who lives in Qld whether their Maroon or Blue is really passionate. Always find those who move up here funny when they bitch and moan about the Qld and Broncos coverage. It's like living in Newcastle or Canberra & getting upset with their pride in their clubs and town.

 Yeah, and there are Qlders who do the same after only 3 years of rape. Harden up!

A bloke running onto a football field beats anything in GF history huh?

I feel sorry for you Queenswankers. We all know the Origin passion. You guys dont know the far greater experience of winning a comp. Sure, Brisbane have won 5 legitimate ones, but for you lot it's just another extention of Origin -another reason to give it to NSW. We saw that in Petes favorite thread last September.

I guess that why you guys are more willing to hack away at clubs existence as if it means nothing.

If all you know is Origin passion -that's sad. I get the feeling that when the Cowboys win their first comp (hopefully soon), the intelligent half of QLD north of Capricorn will understand.

Nothing comes close to your club wining a comp. Nothing.

Yes companies do cater for different markets and adjust their campaigns to suit but its at a whole different level up compared to other parts of the country. Just now I heard a news break on channel 7 that said "1000s of Qlders attended dawn services across the south east to commemorate ANZAC day". Why not say 1000s of people? Why do they always refer to the collective public up here that way, its just strange to do so imo. I have never heard "1000s of NSWelshmen" or "1000s of Victorians" used in either of those states, its pretty unique to programs up here.

Its no beatup mate, it happens up here far more than anywhere else I have been in Australia
