When do we call time?

why would he bother taking a coaching job for only two years?

Well no one else has asked him for one. Then there is the fact that he is 64 years old and this may be his last shot at it. Besides be up front with him. Tell him what you want and need from him. Tell him that if things go well, that another club may also see the value in someone with his rare skills. Or give him a junior development roll after the 2 years. Hell he can't do any worse in that area.

Hell I believe he has a soft spot for our club and he might hate seeing, just like us, what is happening and want to help and contribute in tuning it around. But all I am suggesting is we ask. Nothing ventured nothing gained, right. But we need a strong quality guy who knows his shit. There is no one that I can think of that has his pedigree that is available.

Brown picked up players from other clubs cleanouts. Other than Ponga, he signed Rooster discards from the cleanout or journeymen.

He is lucky that it has worked for him so far, but he hardly signed players at the top of their game.

Surely you dont think that it’s a formula that we should follow ?

He signed players from winning clubs. You know a winning mentality. I think that that was what Brown meant mate. He signed the best that he could that came from a winning system.

the first two seasons he missed the finals with a team that was cheating the cap

Really? He nothing to do with that!! And we cheated the cap so good, BA couldn't even have a full squad of players!! Additionally in those 2 years he had to deal with an amateur management and board and certain factions wanting him sacked and potentially undermining him!!

He got us performing like a top 8 side within 3 years (the salary cap obviously stuffed the 3rd year but we were still playing as a top 8 side - it wasn't his fault) of us being a wooden spoon side, then got us to the finals in year 4.

Yeah we are playing like shit but considering what BA has done he deserves to at least finish his contract. Really he could have put the club back 10 years if he had quit in 2016!!

It's not like he has stuffed our cap and it's clear he is looking to fix areas of our squad (re Paulo rumours).

No coach deserves to finish their contract if they are severely underperforming no matter how well they stood up in a crisis a couple of years ago.

If we finish bottom 4 this year and look like finishing bottom 4 next year you are prepared to wait till October 2019 before we sack him and hire a new coach , effectively writing off 2020 as well?

Great, so the new coach f**ks our cap, giving himself an excuse for failing over the next 2 years !!
Or we can continue to head in the same direction until 2019 and waste yet another season and then finally bring in yet another coach for yet another rebuild.

It would be different if the team or coach had showed us anything that they will be able to dig themselves out of this hole but that press conference game me zero confidence that BA can do anything to get us out of the shit. In fact he was happy with the effort FFS!! Lucky it was a wet weather game against a poor raiders team.

What’s the alternative mate? Sack another coach and return to the dark days?
Have you been under a rock the last 6 weeks??? The dark days are here, worse Eels team in 27 years.

BA and management are totally responsible, we don’t have a pack that can compete for this season. We can’t control the ruck and constantly give away penalties to try and slow them up. Every club knew about the new rule changes BA and his coaching staff mustn’t have got the Memo. Bloody Max cost cutting again was worried about saving paper.

This isn't even close to the lowest we've been.

I reckon that team you can't mention spends a bit more on players and running their team than we do. They were even allowed to organise a TPA for Maloney.
They were named the team with the 3rd highest amount of TPA payments ...... and we all know TPA is code word for dodgy

We should only sack him if we think we have a better option. That might take some time.

We need to be comfortable that Hasler, Toovey or Maguire will add something and shouldn't just rush to sign one of them in an act of desperation.

When you employ somebody you can never be sure how it will turn out. Employment is always a gamble.

There are lots of things that can be done to mitigate potential risks. The first of which is avoiding running off and lifting your skirt at the first person that shows any interest.

We've never ever sacked a coach ever. Even when Dally Messenger was our coach he just miraculously decided he'd had enough at the same point the club did...

Yes if they consistently underperform, I agree. But not after one bad year. He deserves a chance, look at the dragons under McGregor - plenty of shit performances in his coaching career to!!

What ever happens we won't be waiting until October next year to determine our 2020 coach.

What makes you think if we are shit again next year that Gurr will wait until October to determine who is the coach for 2020? He is too good of an operator to be that stupid!!
