Are you pissed of after we lose?

Don't you think BA is also pissed too?? He probably has just put in an 60 hour week plus another 15 hours of video reviews, then there is the game, and we lose!! He is f**ked gutted (a lot more then us considering how much effort / time he has put in) so I doubt he is going to thinking too clear or giving away much at a f**ked press conference!! It's the last thing he would want to do!!

While we have been shit, I am sure BA has big bloody idea why and is trying to fix it!! It's his bloody career FFS!! And it's not as easy as just swapping some players for reserve graders!!
Oh boo hoo for BA.

He is well compensated for his time, no it’s not as easy as swapping some out some players and bring in some reserve graders because they too won’t do much to arrest this slide. But this was the squad he was happy with and he was responsible for assembling. He was also the one happy to turn our already undersized pack into a bunch of Marathon runners.

The buck stops with him.

Here's my take:

Having the independent governance arrangements put on us was in hindsight a low point. Yes we saw some immediate improvements but ultimately it signalled a point where we broadcast to the NRL, fans, other clubs and future sponsors "Our club is so shit we cant actually manage it ourselves".

Think about that for a while and consider what it means. The scrutiny on 3rd party deals, no ability to cleverly and discretely bend the rules like other clubs. That is far more profound and sad than any short term results IMO.
So not being able to cheat means we can’t compete??

If that’s true why do we still have a big chunk of cash not spent??

And what does any of that have to do with our pisspoor tactics, attitude and the body shapes of our pack which clearly aren’t capable of competing in the NRL with the way the rules are being interpretated???

Theory:

We go through this season 0/25

2019

new stadium

we scrape into the top 8 on points differential by 1 point, knocking out the Dogs for a place
We knock out Manly 1st week of the semis

(already we have over achieved massively)

we make the GF v Storm (smith and billy last game ever), penalty count 18-2 to the storm
we have 3 players sent to the sin bin throughout the match (Kenny twice), Storm have 0

Parra win 15-14

Season 2018 erased from our memory

Problems
Beau Scott was rumoured to be on 400k.
Evans as above
Manu Mau signed a good contract id guess 500k+
Hayne 500k and been injured

The guys above are taking up 2 million dollars and I wil excuse Hayne as injured. But the other 3 are giving about half that value.
Gower,Niukore,Matagi in the side would do as good a job as those 3 currently are. And cost about 500k compared too 1.4mill. There is 1 million up sleeve plus Hayne to return.

Its easy to blame Kaysa,Terepo,King or Alvaro. These guys would be cheap and giving a performance equal to their pay packets.

Lets not be harsh on Bevan but there is another guy who id assume is on 300k+ and giving very little.

Imagine cutting the 3 forwards I mentioned and having 1.4 mill to throw at 3 forwards.
Could have something like this
Jnr Paulo for 600k
JFh - 300k
Tariq Sims - 500k

Add Hayne and its a different team.

I hear you mate. We are serving up unacceptable shit at the moment and things need to change. I’m not disputing that.

What I am suggesting is that when were told that our club couldn’t manage itself properly that was as low as I felt we could go. The years of factional infighting and poor management meant the club was taken away from us! That’s f**ked and has serious long term implications.

If you think that not being able to manage issues yourself and that discreete and clever 3rd party deals don’t create an advantage then please stop with the Roosters and Broncos jokes. The truth finally comes out!

Worse still ... it broadcast to player managers that our club is not a source of extras - steer clear

That wasn't the point, you said he looked like he has no idea because of a press conference!!

Still hopefully Evans will come good and be a good addition to our prop rotation,

Scott was what we needed at the time and doubt he will be here next year. And is lucky to be in the side but with Brown out, I would have him starting at 13 with Moeroa edge and t-Rex bench.

Manu was good when he signed but agree he isn't going great and should be dropped.

Gower and NK probably deserve a chance. But Matagi doesn't, poor defensive and only gets talked about because he makes the odd spectacular charge !!

Yes we do need another prop, and it's clear BA is looking for one. I suspect we may have been a chance for him Graham but BA wanted a bigger prop. Anyhow it probably was the right decision, as there is a good chance Graham in 2020 at the dragons will be like Scott for us this year (and costing more).

If we sign Paulo (with rumours suggesting it's a chance), re-sign T-Rex and Evans finds some form, we probably looking ok for size along with adding NK to the side (assuming his form is up to NRL) the pack looks a bit better with some size. I would then be looking for another forward with some mongrel/leadership, not someone necessarily big but a younger version of Scott - so I know plenty wouldn't agree but I would be looking at Josh Jackson, the dogs have some cap issues so they may consider it.

Then comes to hooker - not a lot of options available, is Levi any good? Or is Friend on the outer? Rein? Burher?

So for 2019:

8. Mannah
9. TBC
10. Paulo
11. Jackson (or another quality edge signing)
12. Moeroa
13. Brown

14. NK (will have to play some time in the middle ) is there a better option? Wouldn't mind Austin as the bench utility instead but how much would he cost?
15. Evans
16. Alvaro
17. T-Rex

Not a bad pack, starting edges may not offer as much in attack, but it's agressive and good defensive.

Some fair points raised by you and Strider, none of us are happy we are in this position. BA is an Eels man through and through and seems a great bloke. But tough questions need to be asked of him and his coaching staff and of the board. How could they get it so badly wrong and what can we do to get us out of this mess????

I think it is ridiculous we still have no defensive coach, still no head of football and most importantly no wrestling coach.

It shows in the first 6 weeks.

Yeah.

It appears as though the focus since the new arrangements were imposed on us is to get ourselves financially stable. I’m not sure that it helps us be successful on the football field.

Probably the most astute comment about this current dilemma that I have seen.
And most probably closest to the truth (as least the truth as I know it).

So, assuming that it is close to the mark the obvious questions are.

What coach in their right mind would work under these conditions? A desperate one?

What would we need to do to jag a better coach (spend more money in a range of areas, pay him a shitload, sign player ‘x’ etc).

Are we willing to do that to get a new coach?

If we are, then is it possible that we could do more to support the incumbent?

Is BA too ‘proud’ to accept support or is it simply not available at the moment?

They were named the team with the 3rd highest amount of TPA payments ...... and we all know TPA is code word for dodgy

Are we referring to Penrith? And if that is true, that is outrageous. If Penrith can get that many TPA's then what the hell are our management doing? I mean Penrith...the business hub of the West. Not!

Sure Roosters, surrounded by bazillionaires and the Broncos are a one city team, but Penrith?

Our management is kidding itself if that is true. If not, as you were.

You're missing the point. We are being micro-managed by the NRL now who are scrutinising every time we fart.

Look Parramatta is the NEXT SYDNEY. And best part is we are not sharing it like souths and roosters. We have heaps of Juniors and will have the best stadium in the NRL.
We should be the powerhouse of the NRL alongside of Brisbane and Penrith.

Early to mid 90s was complete plop. Consistent and thorough plop.

Salary cap dramas were the more recent low point. Some people are underestimating the profound impact that it has and will have going forward.

What a plop statement. For one salary cap infringements haven't has negative lasting effects on any other team. And secondly this is the team that BA built and was considered a genuine title threat.

No they are just very ordinary due to lack of forward power, dummy half dullness and winger weakness.

And he oversaw that and totally mismanaged it. Size does freakin matter. Period!
