When do we call time?

There are 3 players you were referring to based on your previous post.
Taka, Smith and French. Are they the jack of all trades, master of none you are talking about?

Smith would know he is not Top 17 but is an effective backup in about 3 spots.
French is currently the best FB option in our 2019 squad.
Taka is a current NZ international and would be the most likely to get a top 17 gig elsewhere. He is also one of only 2 players we attempted to shop around that we were prepared to pay part of his 2019 contract for.
Yep those 3. Smith can provide cover for a number of positions so there’s a chance (although slight) he could find a club that could use him as their number 14. French isn’t a first grade quality fullback in my opinion but can provide cover at the back and on the wing. Taka isn’t a quality edge forward or centre, but can provide cover at both.

I’d rather take a gamble and have more quality in specialist positions and hope we are lucky with injuries, than have a squad with too many players that can provide cover for multiple positions but don’t provide the same quality in any.

Taka missed the international boat this time round

How much are we gonna save by offloading smith french or taka ... individually between maybe 100k to 200k? ... eg i doubt smith is on more than 150-175k ... no other club will readily take all his salary ... it would leave us with nothing more than minimum $s to fill a spot

If that’s the case, why did we offer him that kind of salary?

I think he is worth more than minimum ... i dont think he is being paid overs if that number is close

But the whole "I will take player X off your salary cap" thing is as much about the other team getting a deal, ie not the full salary at least initially ... no other team pays full freight for someone who is a depth player if they have a prime chance to avoid it

Well if we can offload him and the amount we chip in is less than the minimum wage then that essentially frees up his full cap amount to bring someone into the the top 30.

Ummm, no. This point here which is the one I commented on before you went off on a tangent.

You say he shouldn't give sprays, others say he is too close, others say he is too intense. But none of you f**ken know.

You are looking at results and then trying to come up with reasons for why those results occurred that are too simplistic imo. The only thing that is irrefutable is the fact that we were poor last year and everyone contributed to that result. The rest of the commentary is just interpretation based on limited information.
I said the sprays don’t seem to work, well when you get by 54 points after a spray where do you go as a coach???

Stand corrected on the Taka being a current international.
Either way, he was shopped by us and do you see him making anyone else's top 17 in 2019?

Lots of factors to consider other than a spray. They didn’t lose that match because his spray was no good.
I hear he gives a fantastic spray, but after a while they sort of lose meaning. As my old man could attest to with a young Hiney back in the day.

I think the Dogs, Manly, Titans or even the Broncos could use him on the edge next year.

But he’s good enough for ours??? Sorta sums up the squad.

Far enough, but do you really think he will be in our top 17 with no injuries?

Manu / Moeroa have always started as our edge forwards and we now have Lane who I doubt was purchased to play NSW cup. Then there is Niukore who was picked before him towards the end of the year. So there really isn’t an edge spot for him.

He is probably a slight chance for a start at centre depending what Hayne does. If Hayne doesn’t come (which is looking likely) Gutho may go to fullback opening up a centre spot (but then Salmon may go to centre) but then Norman / French could end up at fullback too.

He is far from a top 17 certainly like previous years.

Additionally plenty of players like Taka have re-signed by their club but then over their contract have been demoted to outside the top 17.
