Where To ?

Chris Lawrence really looks out of sorts, if he is not carrying an injury he needs a stint in park footy. After round two we are still way off the pace. What ever structure we have in attack is being killed by Marshall's ad lib footy. We need Benji and his unpredictability but he has to come to terms with the fact that when you're always unpredictable it becomes predictable and ineffective. It's like any killer punch, you gotta play to a plan, keep coming and when you have the opposition in a position of vulnerability throw the killer blow. You can't show your cards every play and expect to suprise your opponent

So where to?

I think that the problems are that we don't have enough decent forwards or backs, and the players that we do play have trouble scoring tries and defending.

Other than that, things aren't too bad really...

It is going to take longer than an off season and 4 games for Potter to have the team playing the way he wants it to play.

On the positive side we have some of the best junior talent and it may take another season before it finds its way into the top side.

On Tedesco, an NRL player should be able to play more than one position. The fact he is not a winger is not an excuse for the performance he put in on Thursday night. He also looked off the pace.

Perhaps an experienced NRL player but its a bit hard to expect a rookie still learning in his primary position to be able master another specialist position first game. For that reason i was against him playing because not only did it create a weakness in the side it may have also damaged his confidence. Should have picked Nuo because 1 he is a winger and 2 he is good enough.
The question why was he picked there ? IMO it was because everyone knows he should be our fullback but obviously people within the club havnt got the balls to drop Moltzen so the next best thing to keep the pro Ted camp happy was to just throw him in there somewhere regardless of wether it was a wise move or not.Im truly wondering if Potter is being overruled by within or he is not the coach he is cracked up to be. Utai, Reddy , Moltzen picked ahead of Meaney or Tedesco, Nou or Simona ... just makes me wonder who is calling the shots.

If you can play fullback, then you can play winger.

Obviously he is not up to NRL standard at the moment.

A fullback can play on the wing in attack maybe but I think picking a specialist fullback can definitely cause problems in defence which is exactly what we seen thurs night.
I was happy when Tedesco was named to play but I can see now it was a bad idea.

Hmmm .. oh well by your standards he failed as an NRL WINGER AND NOT FULLBACK so he is back to reggies while we put up with more Moltzen who has failed after 2 years of opportunity ?

From an outsider looking in I think the WT are going to have to just suck it up for a little while. It's not all doom and gloom though.

Firstly, take out Fazza, Bunji, Woodsy, and Keith - they are in the top 17 at any club.

Go through the rest of the squad and there are a bunch of players that have either experience or ability but not both. Some have neither. Chris Lawrence is probably the odd one out because he has just had no luck.

So the good news is that kids like Marika and Buchanan will develop well in a year or two with more games under their belt and they'll compliment the four players I mentioned. If the club is lucky then Sirro jnr and Tedesco (or a couple of other youngsters) will come along strongly too. Those 8 players (9 including Lawrence) will be a tidy core if you can get them all to 50+ games.

1 Teddy
2 Koro
3 Lawrence
4
5
6 Benji
7 Miller?
8 Big Red
9 Fazza
10 Woodsy
11 Buchanan?
12
13 Sirro jnr?

Put some question marks there because I'm not sure what people think of the positions. I think there is some potential there but it will be later in 2014 or 2015 when we see it.

Thats such a nonsense statement.

Brett Stewart seems to have gone well having played only one position his entire career.

Brett Stewart has made the fullback position his own and has nothing to prove as a footballer. The analogy is poor. Try again

I'm not the coach, but it appears they are sticking with Moltzen at fullback for the time being.

Perhaps play Tedesco at wing in "reggies" and he may improve in a few weeks to NRLstandard.

Isn't it funny that Hayne and Slater can play Origin on the wing out of position.

You would think a young kid who we all think can play could fill in an NRL game or two.

I think it's crap that Tedesco can't become a winger.it comes down to football ability. Sure he struggled in defence last week but he is worth persisting with if the coach wants to keep Moltzen at FB, which in my opinion is ridiculous. This kid is quite big, he scoots well, has good feet close to the line, and from what I have seen in reggies, is good under the high ball.. He is the long term FB so put him there NOW. By the way there have been plenty of FBs that have started on the wing.

In fairness WT wingers have been getting left stranded in defence due partly to there inside men going awol ,with weak defenders inside our wingers can expect more of the same from opposition attacks .

It helps that they are both experienced players not a young kid who has played only three games of first grade footy and is coming back from a major injury.

Yeah but they are playing Origin ( and getting man of the match awards in Hayne's case) which is the elite level of the game and multiple more times intense than an ordinary NRL game....

Not bad for playing "out of position" which according to Gus Gould and some others here is pretty much impossible to do....

Hayne has played quite a bit of winger hasn't he (even started his NRL career there)? Slater is the best fullback of this generation and even then he's a pretty damn average winger.

Wing and fullback are 2 completely different positions and judging a winger on his ability to play fullback or vice versa is moronic. You don't sign a winger to play fullback and you don't sign a fullback to play on the wing. Sure if a player is capable of it that's great but isn't necessary.

In general the build of your average winger and fullback are very different nowadays and they have completely different roles.

The comparison is ludicrous anyway. You're talking about 2 of the most naturally gifted talents in the game. Tedesco doesn't have to be as good as Hayne or Slater, he only has to be better than Moltzen which is god damn near impossible not to be.
