Looking at the Newcastle game again - Shite, my confidence for any success this season is shattered. It was a 1 out of 10 performance.

Anasta said its the happiest he's been in years, cop the tip Braith, the roosters supporters are just as happy as you, karma old mate will always return serve, your dig at the roosters showed poor form on your behalf, just as you showed poor form last night!

I'd almost contemplate starting with a big pack and put backrowers on the bench when the ruck speeds up later in the game.

8 - Woods
9 - Farah
10 - Galloway
11 - Murdoch Masila
12 - Buchanan
13 - Blair

14 - Fulton
15 - Anasta
16 - Pettybourne
17 - Thompson

After 20 mins, rest BMM and Buchanan and bring them back for 10-15 mins of the second half in place of Woods and Galloway

replace them with Anasta and Fulton in the first half, and during the second half rotate the forwards with Pettybourne and Thompson, who could play close to 30 mins in the back end of the game and ensure that none of our pack are dead on their feet like last night either.

It could help us cover the start of games where we get smashed and help sure up our defensive structure. Once the game starts speeding up after 20 mins or so, bring on the quicker back rowers to run at tiring big boys on the opposition.

Just an idea.

I can see some merit in this idea. On some levels it makes total sense. My only concern would be the lateral movement up the middle with Keith, BMM, Blair, Buchanan. Someone like Isaac Luke could run riot. Maybe we need to start employing strategies like this when it suits the opposition we're playing.

Fair enough but we made Waddell look like a star last night along with a half playing hooker so it couldnt be much of a downgrade

I would love to see that pack out there but with more grunt on the bench. Something like:-

8 - Woods
9 - Farah
10 - Galloway
11 - Murdoch Masila
12 - Pettybourne
13 - Blair

14 - Buchanan
15 - Bell
16 - Fulton
17 - Thompson

I think we have to get our pack right and then get rid of the liabilities (Miller & Utai). After that we need a good back 3 so Moltzen can f**k off out of fullback.

I actually think we have the players to go alright. I thought Lawrence and Ayshford looked fine against Newcastle. They have size, some speed and to me they look committed. They had two wingers who had no idea defensively and backrowers backing them up who couldn't tackle jack shit.

Use Ayshford and Lawrence as cover defenders.

I'd rather teams try and break us up the middle with a bigger pack then just waltzing around us all night because everyone is the middle of the park lending a hand

Braith Anasta and a Tim Moltzen contract extension. Timmy's parting gifts to the club.

Also, why on earth are Royce & Co still there?

Rabble.

Anasta showing his concern today, saying "We only lost the first game"

I wish it was only a loss and not the utter annihilation that it was.

Sure it was only the first game, but the amount of serious issues it showed up says to me that it should be dismissed so casually.

Do any of you insiders have any word on whether there will be any changes for the weekend or will it be the same team?

I thought the same thing. The interviews that keeps getting replayed on fox sports news tells me that these guys are being very naive about what went down on Monday night.

As the funeral of the young NYC player was held on the Friday (I believe the majority attended) pre the Knights game, just maybe they were not up for the contest.

I am starting to believe that we are just not good enough!excuses don't hide the fact that we were rubbish on Monday night, whilst a lot of the same players again dished up the same crap as last season,so how many chances do they deserve?

The halves problem is massive for us. We need someone with a bit of flair on the opposite side to Benji. Millers dilemma is a result of the fact that nrl don't have a proper reserve grade comp in my opinion. He was pretty good in the 20's but has been thrown in the deep end, a proper stepping stone with intensity and speed in between 20's and top grade. The system of feeder clubs etc is just a rabble it's not the way to develop great players

Agree with that
Not many players can make a simpl trsnsition from 20s to NRL...especially in a crucial position.
It takes a very special player...thats no slight on Miller
It takes time for juniors and it take time or senior players to break old habits....a decades worth.

I wouldn't be surprise if by round 5 we see either Curtis Sironen or Brooks partnering Benji in the halves. probably Sironen once he has a couple of games up his sleeve brings a bit more defensive size to the halves, and showed last year he can play with Benji and Robbie something miller hasn't shown

So 50 mins in and we are up 18-6.

Just give them some time. They will come good - and without the expectation of winning the comp this year, we might actually give it a shake.

:)
