Where will SBW rank among the game's best ever second rowers?

You may be right. But getting stuck on semantics to prove a point - but ignoring a century of career achievements and stats from people from Frank Burge to Chook Raper to Hindy and everyone in between to proclaim SBW as the best ever - hypocrisy in it's purest form

He made more between 08 and 13 than SBW did. But then again, so did Frank Burge.
And I bet SBW made more in 2013 than Flopzilla did between 2002-2012!

Why are we talking about mere mortals like SBW and Hindmarsh when we could be talking about superhumans like Dave Taylor and Feleti Mateo?

SBW is close to if not the most talented second rowers ever to play the game, but having said that I would struggle to rate him near the top due to a lack of games/longevity in the sport. That will always count against him imo.

His achievements in other sports highlight what a talented and driven athlete he is but should count for zero if we're simply comparing on a RL basis.
Perhaps, but one of our games best ever players was Dave Brown from the 30's. Now I never got to see him and play and I doubt many did but he only played 94 games whereas SBW has played 97 and has a full season ahead of him. This would wither cancel out the longetivity argument or discredit Brown on his achievements.

Joke will be on you and sbw in 2014 when the sleeping giant DT decides to have a crack. I actually feel sorry for you and sbw, so oblivious to the impending doom of the approaching coal train.

Hindy is an Eels legend, and rightfully so IMO. He had a huge heart and was great defensively (even though he made many flops), but his attack sucked and did so for years.

But SBW is just the complete package. Best overall forward I've ever seen. Ball-playing, defense, running - he's got it all. I'm jealous that he's a Rooster.

I'm not a fan of SBW the bloke, but SBW the player is just phenomenal.

Though Browny went to the UK for a few seasons

Pthetic. Roosters fans now discrediting every player to wear their jumper to make SBW look good.

Waiting for the "Artie was sh*t" post..........

Yeah I actually like hindy a lot but he was purely a workhorse, and padded those stats by being the 3rd man in on a lot of tackles.

He's not in this discussion, and I say that even though I think NSW and Australia unceremoniously sacked him way too early.

SBW is really good, but if he was even better he'd be a fullback or something. If GI decided to play back row he'd be better than SBW. He is better than SBW generally. As is Hayne.

Hindy was a product of poor coaching. He was a gun prior to becoming a defensive specialist.

He also suffered from badly arthritic ankles and toes which slowed him down.

I think Hindy is a legend, but SBW is a phenomenal talent. He's a bit of a prat, but an incredible talent. A joy to watch.

Best second rowers I have seen are Kennedy, Tallis, Fitzgibbon, Menzies, SBW and Lindner minus his Parra days.

But would Dave Brown be one of the best if playing in 2013? I imagine back then 94 games was a fair amount and no doubt he had a big impact on a game that was largely still in its infancy. However, comparing the two eras greys things a bit, and the fact we have to go all the way back to 1930's to find a comparative further strengthens the longevity argument imo.

It could also be argued that longevity has hurt some second rowers in the eyes of many. How did people feel about Nathan Hindmarsh after he'd played 97 games? I think their opinions would differ to what a lot are saying in here.

As I said before, SBW is undoubtedly one of the most talented all round players the game has seen, and if I was picking a team to play for my life he'd be in it, but saying he's better than some of the all time greats is another thing completely.
