Mavericks and Lakers

Loved the Mavs since Cuban was introduced and they built around Nash, Finley, and Dirk in Nelson's offence. It was always a really fun game to see. Watching Dirk drop those high arching threes like no tomorrow or Findawg drive to the FT line for an automatic pull up fade away was awesome. Seems like Dirk's cut that shot out of his game though...

I always liked the hornets when I was young. Maglore, Mashburn and Davis= quality. Oh and big Rob Tractor trailor was always entertaining.

I've been following Chicago since childhood, I've got relos who live there and they use to send us Bulls stuff so it was pretty hard not to be a fan, then when Luc Longley got traded there it was good to follow an Aussie, and I still follow them now even though they suck, I can sense a few good years on the horizon lead by the 3 C's, Chandler, Curry and Crawford, and with a support cast which includes Jay Williams, Kirk Henrich, and Marcus Fizer.
how funny

I'm a keen pacers fan i started following them because they are the same colour as the eels and who could not love reggie miller

Growing up, Seattle Supersonics, used to love watching Kemp & GP play.

Didn't mind the Blazers either because of Clyde the Glyde.

The last few seasons I've been following the Celtics, always been a fan of KG & Pierce.

There were Miami Heat fans prior to Lebron James and Chris Bosh teaming up with Dwayne Wade. We all didn't jump on the bandwagon. If I am being honest, I don't care for how LeBron James carried on during the off-season albeit he ended up at our team. It was ordinary and I don't blame NBA fans for insta-hating King James and our team. I would if the shoe was on the other foot though it ain't, and I am looking forward to the season.

Let's recap. I joined the Miami Heat in 1995. I was at the time a so-so NBA fan here in Australia. I appreciated the sport, the super stars like Michael Jordan, David Robinson, Karl Malone etc. though I wasn't what you'd call a passionate basketball fan.

I started taking moderate interest in 1992. The Dream Team was MASSIVE here and they sparked my interest outside the big names in the sport. This big dude named Shaq was all over the news (big considering Australia wasn't exactly embracing the NBA outside of MJ, Magic, Drexler, Bird etc.) as well a guy who'd later become my favourite player of All-Time, Alonzo Mourning.

This is the guy that got me on the Miami Heat bandwagon, not King James.

So anyway, the coverage of the NBA got better and I started getting in to NBA cards (I still collect them and have some money making cards in my collection). I played games on my console (I loooooved the Megadrive editions of early NBA games) and if I was asked in that two year period as to who I followed, I'd have said Charlotte as I was drawn to Alonzo Mourning and to a lesser extent, Larry Johnson.

Anyway, come 1995 Zo' "took his talents" to the Miami Heat. I chose that time to declare my sole support to Miami and with it brought my first of twenty one NBA jerseys (collector). Forgetting the Nets debacle, Mourning is my favourite All-Time player (D-Wade is a close, close second) and I treasure the gear I have featuring his mug or name on the back.

As for those who jumped aboard when LeBron and Bosh came on board, welcome. Your in for a ride and you will learn to love the Miami Heat. I'd suggest you are a little late given D-Wade should have been enough, though your welcome all the same.

Great thread to dig up. Some serious laughs in here.

I go for the Magic because they rocked my world when they had Shaq for three years, then a decade of sadness including injuries, hissy fits, confusing trades and general mismanagement before we fluked Dwight Howard and have started to turn it around. Bout time.

Shaq at the Magic was a great time, that's when I came on board the NBA as noted above though I was a Mourning fan. I have both of their rookie cards and with any luck, they will be worth something in a few decades time.

I used to love Magic vs Hornets games.

Tonearm, what a harsh comment that anything is better than following the Clippers, I go way back to their last year in San Diego and will never stop, I have met lots of fellow Clipper Nation fans over the years in the US and even though I have been to about 20 or 30 games I along with the Nation will stay loyal.
I have been allowed to a couple of practices many years ago as well which was cool back druring the days of Manning and my personal Fave Charles "Fluid" Smith.
I have seen some of the greats play the game, including Jordan, Akeem, Sampson, Malone, Stockton, Mourning to name a few but my Clips are Special despite the owner.
I would rather by a Clipper fan than a Laker fan especially now and now we have the Poster child things are looking better, now we need a couple of good trades.

Lebron James is the most talented basketball player to ever walk the earth. By the time he retires he'll have more MVP's, multiple Finals MVP's, multiple championship rings, the all time point scoring record and in the top 10 all time for assists and he'll be arguably the greatest of all time. Watching him since his draft made the news here has made me an NBA fan. So in short, Miami.

Golden State. Started with the Sprewell/Mullin/Hardaway era and just stuck solid while everyone just followed the stars.

I've supported the Spurs since being back in primary school in the early 90s. I was a big David Robinson fan and collected all his basketball cards. I liked the Bulls back then too cause of Jordan (who didn't?), but have stuck with the Spurs the whole time and have seen them win 4 championships!
