Talent wise Thurston is miles above Langer but so were Sterling, Stuart and Johns.Without trying to look like the typical clown in here that jumps to the defence of players of their fave team ( I would say this even if I wasn't a NQ fan) but I think you are being a little harsh on Thurston there mate. The cowboys have had some f**king disgraceful nuffies play for us over the last few years dragging the team down, he can't do it all by himself every week.
But he did win a premiership in 04 though.........

But Langer has a career that is superior to all of them. You can say he had a champion team but he was the leader and developed into a player who knew what he had to do to be and remain successful, a little like Lockyer.
Langer is an out and out champion, Thurston is probably not quite but he has a long way to go. I would like to see Thurston win a premiership with the Cowboys, although he won in 04 he was not the player he is now and was one of those players along for the ride. If he won before the end of his career with the Cowboys steering them around as he has done for 5-6 years then I think this comparison would be a little closer.
Excellent post. I have to agree with the points set out by Beave as well. You're only as good as the players around you and Langer never had to put up with nuffies like Carl Webb, Michael Bani and Grant Rovelli. The Broncos for a long time there had the pick of the best Queensland players.
I chose Langer because of his career achievements moreso than any comparison of skill between him and Thurston. Personally I don't think there was much difference in skill between Thurston and Langer, both are very dangerous players close to the opposition line and had direct influence over the outcome of a game. I'll let you guys choose based on skill because between those two, you've got me beat :?.
It's never easy choosing between one champion and another.
Never saw either of them
Im going to take a punt and say Neil... but to give someone with more knowledge than me
Trevor Cogger or Mick Neil?
and (apologies if its been asked before)
1994 Raiders v 1998 Broncos?
You should know Mick Neil he was the player Mal Meninga famously ankle tapped in the 1989 grand final to save the game (one of the many many saves)
Cogger is a Magpies winger from the 80s i don't know much about, has some records to his name though. I'll go Cogger.
Well there you go, i didn't know much about him. I do know he has records with the club though regarding his games playedNo Trevor was a half/ five eighth. Very underated player.
Thurston v Langer is impossible imo. Who would you rather playing for your life? Flip a coin, mate.
Maybe JT gets it for his goalkicking...
